New Class D amplifiers
I’ve never owned the Ncore 400’s but always wanted to try them. When I finally went to give them a try the Nilai500 had been released as their replacement. This is the first time I’ve ever used class D for my stereo mains amplification. I have Cr...
New Class D amplifiers
Congrats OP on success with choosing an amp. A whole thread on new class D amps and no love (nor mention) for the Nilai500? Perhaps too inexpensive lol. Im having success with a pair of these behind a Supratech preamp
Feel like I'm outta my mind....
If you’re going with dual subs (I think you should, as they eliminate any lumpy inconsistent base response throughout a room, unless it’s the size of an auditorium) then I suggest using high sensitivity speakers. Dual subs generally eliminates th...
Goodbye Everyone
God speed @elliottbnewcombjr  +1 @vonhelmholtz you’ve got to “read between the lines”
We should reject hard-to-drive speakers more often
“I’d also like to point out that there’s a sub-thread here about high efficiency speakers which is not mine, I take no responsibility for those statements regarding efficiency vs. sound quality.” @erik_squires  With your post headline I’m not sur...
We should reject hard-to-drive speakers more often
I still say it’s just different human perceptions of what sounds good I had some 3-way tower speakers that were supposed to be the bees knees- scan speak drivers with Ber. tweets) at around 87db sensitivity (translation more like 84 db)  Same th...

I always wonder that too. I think the original reasons were that the loudspeakers were cheaper and so were the higher powered solid-state amplifiers. But that’s not really true anymore. Also for cone speakers (generally) just shrink the voice coi...

What happened to those dreaded 1099 forms we were going to receive from Paypal?
It’s happening no doubt. Just switch to Fa<~^*ok M>~+^|pl~<e it’s great for now, no problem, of course it’s (generally) in person transaction …but doesn’t always have to be.
Do I need 10 gauge power cord if I have 10 gauge from panel?
It’s just physics. If a 4A fuse doesn’t blow during heavy use your likely not exceeding the 15A (14 gauge) power cords current capacity … It may or may not cause you to hear a difference, perhaps at how much voltage sag a particular setup create...
Do I need 10 gauge power cord if I have 10 gauge from panel?
Do your mono blocks have overload fuses? Most do. If so, what amp fuses are they supplied with? 3A?, 4A? 14 gauge is rated to 15A so you should be good to go…
Took the lithium ion battery plunge
Your experience basically means that you had some pretty dirty power. lots of folks (audiophiles) that live in New York City (and other high density cities or neighborhoods ) tend to use balance power supplies (or batteries) because of dirty AC l...
Room Layout and Acoustic Improvements on a Limited Budget
Owens Corning 703 can be quite effective this way. Its mainly because these types of panel absorbers are generally much more effective the farther away from a wall or ceiling they are placed.  This scenario is not usually practical in relation t...
Room Layout and Acoustic Improvements on a Limited Budget
A few years back we built an elevator shaft (3 floors) in an office building renovation. I noticed the offices where about that size (10’ x 14’ but with 11’ ceilings) and the GC was installing one 2’ x 4’ x4” thick panel in each office ceiling (c...
But is it HiFi? (Crown)
They can be great for certain speaker topologies! As with all things audio, there are no absolutes.   I use them mostly for my subs, but they work great for a pair of floor to ceiling line arrays I use (albeit using a tube preamp there).
