Which is a reliable CD changer?
I have a Sony SCD-C555ES, which I am using as a transport. Haven't had it long so I can't say how reliable it is. Seems to be built well. Sounds very good also ( as a transport). Can also play sacd's if you're curious (but only thru analog outputs).
sony dvp-ns500v- how's the sound on redbook cd's?
I think I may have once heard an Adcom gcd-575 and I think the Sony will be a little smoother on redbook cd's. The Sony's weakness is dynamics and overall resolution which it tends to gloss over, but for $150, whadya expect? I bought 2 of them and...
Need Suggestions For Wall Mounted Speakers
Firstly, I agree with your assessment that a rear ported speaker will not work. Although I do not mount my speakers on a wall, I have to place them close to the rear wall and I have found rear ported speakers do not do well in those circumstances....
Any small monitors that dont sound thin and bright
I assume you mean the Spendor S3/5? Are you referring to their new price or used ($600) price? There are many speakers that will sound more "transparent" than the Spendors, especially at lower volumes, where the inefficiency of the S3/5 makes it to...
used high-end DAC or affordable newer model?
My experience is that the newer, cheap dacs have excellent clarity and resolution, but an older high end dac will sound smoother and richer. The only DVD player I have heard that I like is the Sony DVP-NS500V, which I would prefer over the above me...
Headphones-How to Connect?
Unless your cd player has a headphone jack, you would probably have to run a set of interconnects from the tape out jacks on your preamp to a headphone amp. I am not a big Sennheiser fan (I use Grado RS-2's and Ultrasone HFI-600) but I have heard ...
Which Integrated?
If you're going to change speakers I think you are going about this wrong. Find the speakers you want and then find a suitable amp to drive them. Trying to do the opposite is more difficult and more likely to result in a mistake.
Need monitors with a BIG sound
A friend of mine sold his 2ce's to get something better looking and got the Platinum Solo's mentioned above. They work fine and he does not miss the 2ces much. I have heard them also and liked what I heard. They need a good ss amp to work their be...
Senior Audiophiles - Audiophile since the 60-70's?
I first developed an interest in hifi when in high school during the late 1960's. My first system included a Harmon Kardon integrated tube amplifier. Purchased Large Advents in 1975 and Micro-acoustic tweeter arrays for them shortly thereafter (an...
Transport under 1500 new or used
Firstly, I would strongly recommend that you do not buy anything w/o a rite of return or that can easily be re-sold.I have tried a bunch of different transports (unfortunately nothing on your shortlist) and have found that many can add midrange gl...
DAC decision, help please
If you're looking for warmth and adding body to voices and are willing to sacrifice some resolution to do so, I would suggest considering a used Micromega DUO BS2. I preferred it over a Cal Sigma (not 24/96). Have also preferred the Micromega over...
single disc sacd player for 300 used
I think the only thing that comes close to your criteria would be to buy a Sony DVD-NS500V for $150 and then get it modified by either tweakaudio.com or sacd-mods.com. Before sending the Sony out for mods, I would suggest trying it out to make sur...
Power amp recommendations for 1000 and under
When I owned Vandersteen 2CE's I drove them with Quicksilver Silver 90 mono's. I have heard these amps drive Vandersteen 3's and they will work well. I don't know if you can get them used for $1000. I sold mine for $1100 easily. Subsequently, I ne...
Review: DCM TimeWindow 1 Speaker
I also upgraded from Large Advents to the Time Windows in 1981. I agree with all of the comments above about them and do regret selling them. I upgraded to Vandersteen 2B also, but I then had to spend a lot of money to replace my amp and front end...
Review: Spendor SP-2.3 Speaker
Subaruguru,Thanks for the tip. Just purchased a slightly used pair of S3/5's and got them last night. They may be too small for my living room but initial impressions in my "2nd" system in a small (9 x 11) room are very favorable. Midrange seems l...
