Sending audio cables to Europe
Besides insurance coverage is only for the amount declared in the shipping papers. So if the customer wants you to cheat and the goods get lost or damaged you or rather your shipper are only liable for damages up to the amount declared as far as I...
mcintosh MT10 turntable good or not.
I'm not surprised at you findings regarding the disc sounding better than the server, much downloaded music is highly compressed at a lower bit rate. I still think the people will win, and downloaded music is much cheaper than buying and storing c...

Well, IMHO, SACD is a superior format compared to redbook, in general. Sure, I have heard some very well mastered redbook cd's, and a few poorly done SACD's. However, with a good copy of each, I find the SACD to sound closer to vinyl than redbook....
Suggestions for a pre amp with HT passthrough?
Most preamps require that you turn them on to activate the HT bypass, tubes and SS. Yes this is of more concern with tubes, due to their shorter lifespan than transistors. I do know a gent who had his Gill Audio/Art Audio Alana tube preamp designe...
Suggestions for a pre amp with HT passthrough?
I will agree that the Pass Labs X0.2 would be a good choice for SS. I will also agree that SS is more dependable and good designs last forever. However, after listening to tube preamps, I cannot return to SS.So you have a good SS reco, my tube rec...
Tube/SS synergy?
Well your sense of compression could also be caused from this.It seems that compression is all the rage in the recording industry nowadays.Cheers,John
How did you get into vinyl?
Vinyl was the way to listen to the music you wanted to hear. There was no digital, our choices were the radio or LP's. Radio you were at the mercy of the DJ's as to what music was playing. With LP's you could play whatever you wanted...I was laugh...

Hey Beerdraft, well that explains a few things. I've tried a few times to simplify things with a dvd/cd player, but could never find one that sounded decent. I even tried a few modded ones. I'm back to seperate units again now, and I cannot imagin...
Buying from Canada a hassle for you too?
01-18-08: RjaOnce needed warranty work on a Classe product. They had me send it to a US address who, I assume, took it across the border. Worked out very well. They must have known this system would work better than sending it direct. I had a simil...
Sending audio cables to Europe
Personally, I prefer to use USPS when shipping internationally. Can be a bit more confusing at first, with all of their paperwork. Be patient, find a good clerk who'll help, and it's worked better than Fed Ex or UPS for me, though I haven't used B...

You beat me to it Beerdraft, I was just about to recommend the Marantz. That's what I'm now using, a SA-11S1 w/ Ultimate mod from Underwood/pcX. Out of curiosity, which Marantz did you listen to? Was it broken in? If not the Marantz, then possibly...
Tube sound with no tubes
I would tend to agree with Bob (Ontjesr). It would seem that if there was one out there that could replicate the sound of tubes, we all would ditch our tube preamps. I mean no one really likes replacing tubes, we do it because it sounds better tha...

01-17-08: BeerdraftThanks Swampwalker, I actally went crazy trying to get better sound now from the CD player and bought the classe cdp202 today. This table is both a blessing and a bad thing being it made me want a better cd player as I won't eve...
