What do you think of Elrod PC's?
Like 'em very much....musical, full, extended, yada, yada.... David has a great ear for music, and his cords are a steal on the used market....IMHO.Cheers,John
Has anyone listened to Legacy speakers?
Hello Douglas_schroeder...or should I just call you Doug?Great question! I would say that through most of my years with the Legacy's (2+, 1's, Focus) I used SS amplification. Many big names here, PS Audio 200c, Classe CA-200, Threshold T-400...etc...
Review: Balanced Audio VK-P10 Tube preamp
I have sinced moved on, but I have nothing bad to say about the BAT VK-P10SE w/ Super-pak. It is still one of the best phono stages that I have ever heard. As for power cords, I have heard the Audience AU24, but did not feel it sounded good in my s...
Has anyone listened to Legacy speakers?
09-18-08: Sthomas12321Legacy rocks! All this and a 10 year warranty! There is no doubt that Legacy rocks....and does it very well. I lived with Legacy speakers for over 13 years, so I know. However, as I aged (DAMMIT!!!!), I also found my musical t...
Powerful Tube Amp for SF Strads?
I would think a VAC Phi 300.1 or two would do the job nicely.Cheers,John
Cary SLP-05 Vs High End SS or Tube Preamp's
I have heard many, many, many preamps in my 30 years of audio 'nutzville'. FWIW, I have never heard any SS preamp that could contend musically with a tube preamp. I've heard many top SS contenders from Krell, ML, Coda, Threshold, etc. None could b...
Integrateds: Sim I-7, BAT 300xSE, Pass
I haven't heard any of these integrated amps with the Dynaudio C1's. That said, the new Pass integrated is very intruiging. The BAT is a very good, old standby, which I much preffered over the Sim I-7. Of these three choices, I would choose the BA...
Dream State Audio power cords......
I had a Dream State Lucid Dream, I tried it on my amp, preamp, CDP and PLC. I always got the pretty much the same results. First of all, let me say that tonally, I really liked this cord. I thought it's midrange was the purest I've ever heard. Sol...
Selling to Canadians
I've had similar poor experiences shipping to Canada as others here have claimed. First, it can be done, but you MUST use USPS to avoid the back charges of non-customs paying Canadian folks like Upgrade1394 had to deal with. I was also burnt using...
Harsh on tubes?
I think the word used here should be hard on tubes, not harsh on tubes. Yes, some preamps put a tough load on their tubes, which means that these tubes will have a shorter lifespan than normal.Should you avoid them? That's up to you. Some of the f...
Tube Pre/SS Amp versus SS Pre/Tube Amp
As Rwwear says, it works both ways. This has been discussed many times before, perhaps you'll find more opinions in the archives.Cheers,John
First name basis?
Am I commiting some type of online faux pas?Not that I know of. I do the same as you, look through feedback for a name, as I believe it to be more proper.I've never had anyone sign off a reply with their moniker though, that's a new one to me.Chee...
Buzz about pure class A solid state amplifiers ?
Thanks Teddy_bear, I had not heard of Vitus before. However, after looking into it that looks like one SERIOUS amp!!! 176 pounds puts out 50 wpc in Class A!!! $28K price!! Gulp....that makes the Pass Labs stuff look underbuilt. My back and my wall...
Buzz about pure class A solid state amplifiers ?
Well some will call their amps Class A, but obviously it's just a marketing tool for some. As you say, "buzz" word. All 'Class A amps are not equal, just as all Class A/B amps are not equal, and all tube amps are not equal.FWIW, I have not heard th...
Modded gear on the used market.
I agree with Tvad. I also feel that a modded unit by a reputable modder adds value over a stock player. How much value depends on who did the mods. Some modifiers hold their re-sale prices better than others. Best to watch the market as Tvad sugge...
