Tube Options with Verity Tamino
I'm running a VAC Avatar Super with my Verity Parsifal's, and it sounds very good, IMHO. The VAC also has a built in MM phono stage.Cheers,John
What is the best band ever?
Miles Davis Sextet (1958-Kind of Blue version), featuring John Coltrane (tenor sax), Bill Evans (piano), Paul Chambers (double bass), Julian "Cannonball" Adderly (Alto Sax) and Jimmy Cobb on the drums.Cheers,John
Great musical CDP?
Try a Marantz SA-7S1 in you get the chance, or if SACD is really not an issue (which I find hard to believe), look for a used AMR CD-77 (hard to find).Cheers,John
Non-current limiting power conditioners
I agree with Magfan, when purchasing a used conditioner with protection, the MOV's do wear out over time. So I would either look for a used conditioner with NO surge protection or buy a new one with surge protection. In your price range, you shoul...
Help w/Power Conditioning: Shunyata, Furman, RGPC?
Running Springs Audio Haley or Jaco should do the trick.Cheers,John
Review: Running Springs Audio Haley AC filter
Actually the Jaco and Danielle are fairly similar in that they both offer 20A and 2400 watts of continuous uncompressed, uncolored power. The only difference is the Jaco has 8 inputs and the Danielle has 12. If you are running high powered monoblo...
Review: Running Springs Audio Haley AC filter
Actually Jim, the one I mentioned, the Danielle has more inputs than the Haley. It has 12 inputs. You must be thinking of the Duke, with 2 inputs it is the only RSA conditioner with fewer inputs than the Haley.Cheers,John
DAC to add warmth and fullness to Linn Ikemi
I agree with Ckoffend on the CAL Audio Alpha, not the latest, but very sweet, smooth and inexpensive.Another unit, which also is quite dated, but IMHO sounds better at it's used price than any newer DAC at the same price range would be the Classe ...
Non-current limiting power conditioners
I'll second Jim's recommedation of the Running Spring Audio Haley. Great unit for the $$$, IMHO.Cheers,John
Marantz SA7S1 owners - stock or modded
Mr T, I would suggest you try a Shunyata King Cobra V1 power cord...that should darken/sweeten the sound to your taste.John
Review: Running Springs Audio Haley AC filter
Great review Jim! I'm glad you are enjoying the RSA Haley, I thought you would. I am currently using a RSA Danielle with good results....though I am not a big fan of the RSA Mongoose power cord. It's OK for a cheap cord, but I found the Danielle s...
marantz 11s2 sacd player modifications
I would have to disagree with you here MrT. I've heard the Marantz SA-7S1, and it is on the warm side of neutral, especially when you put it up against the competition, like Esoteric, EMM Labs, Cary, etc. Yes, you may find a sweeter presentaion wi...
marantz 11s2 sacd player modifications
I have a Marantz SA-11S1 with a tube buffer stage. Call Chris Johnson at The Parts Connexion (pcX). This mod was called his Ultimate tube mod, and cost around $3200 as I recall. I bought mine already modded, so I can't really give you a before/aft...
Review: Balanced Audio VK-P10 Tube preamp
It's all system dependant, IMHO. My speakers (Verity Audio Parsifal Encore's) tend to be on the warm side of neutral, so BAT gear coupled with my speakers was too dark with the PAD 20th Anniversary cord. The Stealth Dream is faster, more transpare...
VH Audio Vcaps
The V-Caps are astounding! I replaced the coupling caps in my BAT VK-75SE and the increase in detail and articulation was just amazing right out of the gate. Yes, they are expensive, but IMHO they are also well worth it.Cheers,John
