Integrated with Phono Stage under $10K
Congrats and enjoy. Let us know what you think after you've had a chance to listen a bit.
Ridge Street Audio cables vs. others
I've previously owned Poiema!, Poiema!!! speaker cables and interconnects respectively. I do not currently own any RSAD cables. I do however currently own two Poiema!!! Signature power cords. To me the 'house sound' of RSAD cables and cords is ver...
Integrated with Phono Stage under $10K
I haven't heard the Copland or the Gryphon, but I currently own a VAC Avatar Super, and I'm very happy with it, though I do use a SS outboard phono stage as Chazz recommends. The internal phono section is pretty decent, but it wasn't good enough f...
How much better will a preamp be over a processor
I second Srwooten's reply. I went through the SSP phase about 9-12 years ago. High end SSP's from Krell, Proceed, Classe, etc. Once I tried a good stereo preamp (Classe CP-60) it beat every SSP I'd heard by a wide margin. I've never looked back. I...
Why monoblocks?
Why run seperate amps? Most Integrated amps can handle most speakers, especially those that are rated 88 db and above in sensitivity. If a Integrated amp can do the job, why spend money on a seperate amplifier? I mean, what are the benefits?
Static
I agree with all three replies so far. Run a humidifier, do NOT listen while wearing rubber soles, and I usually touch my metal rack before touching the tonearm or CDP.One more thing I do is hit the mute button as I get up to change a recording.Ch...
Most improved last 10yrs: Speaker, amp, or pre?
According to the rise in price tags versus 10 years ago, the obvious answer is: D) All of the above.Cheers,JohnPS: If you really want to stir things up, you may want to throw cables and power cords into this fray too.
Next upgrade?
$500 doesn't go very far in the world of nice-looking hookers either Chayro.I think the $500 would be better spent on Dynavector 10X5/Mint LP Tractor. Dynavector's have good synergy with VPI tables. Harry even has Dynavector custom make a cartrid...
Overseas Pay Pal, your experiences.
I've shipped many items overseas, mostly Asia and Europe. It seems more so lately, as the economy in the US continues to sag. No problems so far. I've only had Paypal (mostly) and wire transfers to date. As with all deals, domestic or overseas, it...
Noise floor hiss
You could try re-routing or changing interconnects and speaker cables, as you could be picking up noise due to shielding (or lack there of) issues. Outside of that you probably will need to get a preamp/amp with a lower noise floor. Cheers,John
It's the Room, Stupid
02-21-10: ShadorneWhat is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?African or European? I do know that this parrot is pining for the fields though.
Best Powerchord for DIGITAL sources? what are you.
Kops, I also love the Stealth Dream series cords. However, the OP was looking for a digital power cord to "smooth things down". I would not recommend the Dream in that case. While I felt the Dream was musical, IME it was also very revealing.
Ground source hum
Are both amp and preamp on the same circuit? If not, put them on the same circuit. Have you tried changing the preamp>amp interconnect? If not, try this. Are you sure it's not cable? Have you disconnected your main incoming cable line?BTW, I th...
Sonic Frontiers and Classe XLR
Why don't you call or e-mail Classe with this question?
Cable Elevators - What do you use?
Elizabeth, you can get the Llama hair from Napoloean Dynamite. He lives in Idaho. If you can't get a hold of him, check with his brother Kip (he's usually surfing the web for ladies, he may find you). The packing tape rolls you can probably score ...
