Weird problem noticed last several playings...
CJ says it's definitely the tubes. They say I haven't replaced then since '14, but it seems sooner than that. So regardless, they are sending 2 new tubes I bought. So we'll see if that fixes it. If not I am going to send it to them for full upgrade.

CJ is very adamant to only buy tubes from them as they have tested and selected what they think best. I am going to call them today.

Yup. There is high end on both speakers but mid-range background vocals, guitars sound muffled. Everything sounds sqiushy and no punch.

Well I think I will hope for best and get new tubes. Any recommendations or should I just get what CJ sells?
Whats playing on your system today?
Well I have a double outer ear infection so, especially, the mids sound muted but on TIDAL: The Alan Parsons Project, EVE.
Tube Preamp with Solid State Amp?
Been doing it for 20yrs since I bought a lightly used CJ PV10AR in '04. First with one NAD 214, then in '13 with two. Then in '18 I replaced my old Klipsch RF-35s with Maggie 1.7is  and one of the NADs failed so I replaced both with a Emotiva XPA-...
Best bookshelf loudspeakers under 10,000 for the pair
If I had something like your budget I'd sell some un-needed equipment after I buy these: https://www.stereophile.com/content/dutch-dutch-8c-active-loudspeaker-system
If you had to start all over again in this day and age
Nearly 40yrs an audiophile and I wouldn't change a thing with the budget I've had over the years. I ha e what I think sounds best for my taste, room, music, and the money. I think a better question would be: if cost was no object what would you ch...
Suggestions for $2k budget
How much reliable power dies your (presumably old) Adcom have into 4ohms? If it has a lot of power/current then would recommend the .7 Maggies for a smaller room and they need space behind them and a fairly closed shaped room to get enough bass wi...
have you ever bought stereo without listening first
Because audio salons can't make money like they used too. In the '80s when I sold high and mid fi retail and bought my stuff there and from similar mom & pop shops (in Cincinnati and Atlanta) their margins were always razor thin. Now non-exist...

Yup. Pretty much everyting except speakers the last 20yrs as all the audio businesses have either transitioned to custom home theater and don't demo anything, only sell super high end and carry very little stock, sell online only, or have gone bel...
Most recordings you own by a single artist, group, or composer
Probably The Proclaimers, XTC, and Pink Floyd.
Decent preamp
+1 to CJ. What you'll will be fairly old as their resale value is very high but there's a reason for that.
What are you streaming tonight?
Various The Pineapple Thief and Supergrass and Elvis Costello, Waiting For The End Of The World lol.
