Why is the snake oil topic closed? Yeah there were some snarky posts. Ironically though the posts were getting more serious and polite as it went on.
What should my next upgrade be? Your best experience I agree a good high resolution capable DAC will likely help here. But the best upgrade I've done, short of replacing speakers, is to add left and right REL subwoofers. Improved every aspect of sound quality including vocals.
Has anyone made the jump to $uper High end and were disappointed? I don’t want to hijack this thread, but I have a question about what type of music folks listen to on their high end systems. Here is the basis of that question: with just a few limited exceptions, rock music is already amplified through electroni...
Streaming vs traditional I can't believe this thread went to global warming denials. Flat Earth next?Anyway, get the best of both (audio) worlds: rip your CDs, manage them with Roon, and integrate a Tidal subscription.
Disappointed w/ Klipsch Heresy III. Now what? The limited placement options are your challenge. In my experience, for low volume listening, if you cannot play with placement, you might try dipolar or bipolar speakers. Those are more airy in a greater variety of listening positions. Less swee...

Which server / renderer to buy? +1 on Roon. Especially if you have Tidal.
Best Tubed Preamp For A Warm, Rich Sound, Yet Still Detailed and Agile This post is a great vehicle for people to pump their favorite preamps, which is great. However, to actually reach your objectives, you might need a wider view. Two points I'd make:(1) In my humble experience, you can only get so much of the tub...
Is remastered mainly just less jitter? I agree that remasters are a crap shoot. But I always seek to hear them as some are worlds better. The most recent Beatles is an excellent example - the 24/48 files from their USB key are the best I've heard by a large margin.I think the 2009/20...
Very Bad purchase from upscale audio Acoustic Zen Adagio 1. I vote that this looks like sunlight damage. One speaker placed in a spot that got a lot more sun than the other one. But that wouldn't explain the run on the finish - a second, independent issue with that speaker.2. I think that Kevin Dea...
When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better? I may take you up on that! Digital takes a long time to get really right. I don't agree that the sound is homogenous. I did not find it reliably good until I built a custom computer with low power and no moving parts, and a dedicated audio-grad...
When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better? This is a little like debating over whether the weather is nicer in Arizona or San Diego. Depends on what you prefer and what the weather was like when you were there. That said, I do love the sound of vinyl. I find that the best go-to LPs plea...
Best Cheap Amps for Magneplanar Speakers I have two options I use to feed my rebuilt 3.3rs: (1) Krell KAV 250A for "daily" (non-focused, i.e. sitting at my desk doing other chores) listening -- also has the advantage of not putting out much heat; and (2) Rogue Audio Magnum M-120 monoblo...

Music Server I've been building my own custom media PCs for over 20 years now. I tend to agree with russbutton except I would also say that you do need to look at the internals of the PC. Check out computer audiophile.com where there are a number of good har... |
