Amplification for Maggie MG 1.6Qr s
I used the Plinius 8150 w/the Maggies until I sold them (the speakers; still have the amp but am considering moving on there as well). It was a very, very good combination, not surprising given teh Plinius' 230W into 4 ohm capability. Hard to imag...
Power Cord Challenge
BTW - I am a he/dude/male/whatever. Just ask my wife . . .And the deal is serious for anyone in the area who wants to try it.Cheers,JHunter
Power Cord Challenge
Estrnad -I'm pretty familiar with stats and probability, although didn't spend any time formulating a null hypothesis, etc. for this case. I did a quick back of the napkin calculation and figured out that there's roughly a 1% probability of gettin...
Power Cord Challenge
Brulee -As it turns out, my new company is HQ'd in El Segundo so I'll be down in SoCal on occasion. I'm a bit geographically challenged (some would argue hearing challenged as well . . .) - how close is Ventura county to LAX? Maybe we could set so...
How can power cords make a difference?
Gumby -Could you be so kind as to identify whoever stated that current demand is constant - I've never seen anyone say anything like that, and it would be a ridiculous statement in any case. But strangely, while you agree (correctly) that the origi...
How can power cords make a difference?
Brulee, HDM -If folks feel that aftermarket power cords improve the sound, OK! However, the ability of the senses to be mislead is legendary and I'd bet big bucks that's what is happening for most people who honestly feel that the PC makes a diffe...
How can power cords make a difference?
Albert -You're being somewhat inconsistant in that you talk about reduced "lag time" from so-called better cords, while complaining about stevemj's analogy only filling the tank faster. But you're exactly right when you say that this should have n...

Just read the white papers on the vansevers website. This guy could give the Brothers Grimm a real run for their money.JHunter
Finally gonna buy new speakers, ideas?
Dunlavy speakers really ought to be on the audition short-list. For under $10k, you could get the awesome SC-IVa ($8k list?), or the Cantata at $5k (a better buy, IMO, and much easier to fit in the room). The aforementioned Audio Physic speakers ar...
Are Audiophiles Obsessive Nuts?
I feel the need to defend the honest-to-God electrical engineer. A number of the posts above imply that having a EE degree (as I do) is incompatible with having a good or trained ear, or an interest in music. This is just plain unsupportable by an...
I am stunned
Wow - don't think I've ever seen a thread grow so fast. Christ (Chstob) - point well taken. I'd used empirical to mean experimental (not pure math at all, just the opposite). In a real sense I don't feel that Liguy performed any kind of experiment...
I am stunned
There are too many points being raised to address properly, but here goes. Upfront, I’ll proudly admit to being an EE. I’m also a musician (amateur, but get paid fairly often), and while some of you wouldn’t consider my system high end, it’s not t...
Speaker help please for $2000 US
I currently own the Maggie 1.6QRs (well, for a couple more days anyway), and can also recommend them as very enjoyable sounding speakers. While they do require a fair amount of power, your Parasound should be up to the task. I would suggest consid...
best integrated under 2k
Definitely try the Plinius 2100i. I haven't heard it, but the 2100i is supposed to be almost identical to its extraordinary big brother, the 8150, just lower power and no phono. It should be possible to find it for ~$1k new (possibly less) if you ...
Integrateds, for $1000.00
Take a look at the Plinius 2100i. It has recently been upgraded and is supposed to sound very much like (if not identical to) the extraordinary 8150. US list price is $2000, but can be bought new for a price close to your target.
