Weak Link in Vinyl Playback
Thin generally describes the house sound of Audio-Technica cartridges.  The AT-VM95SH is basically the low end AT cartridge engine with a more expensive stylus.  You'd need to move away from that line if you want to beef up the sound.  I would rec...
Power Cable Audioquest Dragon vs Isotek EVO3 Ascension
Anyone who drops that much money on a power cord without even considering the basic science that shows them to be a total scam can probably be counted on to buy $5000 in gift cards to get themselves out of a jam with the IRS.
Burn in vs perception
Audiophile:     "So I've done what was recommended and let this cable burn in for 300 hours, but it still sounds the same.  I'd like to return it for a refund." Salesman:    "I'm sorry but the return for refund period has lapsed.  I'd be happy ...
What's up with the price of Vintage equipment?
The really annoying thing is when someone tacks "Vintage" onto a piece of crap Radio Shack receiver (or MCS, or Lloyd's or even Emerson) and hikes up the price.  But there will also be some clueless "hifi enthusiast" that will post that Radio Shac...
Furutech Mains Power Cables Hierarchy & Differences
All these ups and downs in sound quality can really be attributed to one thing, the fact that the differences are due more to psychosomatics than physics.  You're feeling a little tired today, the cable sounds dull and lifeless, feeling better tod...
Does It Hurt....
What's hurting you more is using an AVR in a 2.1 system.  The compromises made in order to get all that processing and all those channels into one box doesn't leave much for fidelity.
A ridiculously cheap cable riser.
But do these "Grip-Rite" risers bend the space-time continuum to allow for the passage of electrons through the quantum tunneled wormhole created by the juxtaposition of the cable and the riser?  I think not.  You, sir, are a charlatan!
What are your favorite songs or albums for illustrating a deep soundstage?
Hector Berlioz, Symphonie Fantastique, Kojian and the Utah Symphony.  Reference Recordings RR-11CD.

@michaellent Too many to mention.  I got in trouble for calling out many of the big names here for their shameless plugging of questionable junk.

I don't think there is room on the planet for another ego as bloated as his.  That must be him.  I remember him touting that his name came from his turntable.  An absolute shill for the high end audio accessory industry (not using the S.O. words)....
The best speaker cables you’ve had
@terry9 "The best resistors, like Vishay VAR, consist primarily of a metal resistive component which is laser trimmed to provide a channel with the specified resistance".  I'd prefer that to jury-rigging some pieces of nichrome trying to get the c...
The best speaker cables you’ve had
@terry9 That's some pretty bogus advice there. Do you have a clue what you're talking about?  If you want to replace a resistor, do it with a quality component, not some hokey nichrome wire.  Either way, you're sure to 1) make no notable improveme...
Could these be your next cable loom??...and price be damned.
@clearthinker Of course it's mad.  It's just stupid to pay $1000 for speaker wires.  But as to credibility, there are those that would look on a $300,000 product and think that the vendor must have incredible engineering resources leveraging grou...
Could these be your next cable loom??...and price be damned.
Many manufacturers have a "flagship" model that is totally out there as far as pricing is concerned.  They know they may only sell a couple, but even if they sell none, having a product like that lends credibility to the brand and helps to sell th...
Is soundstage DEPTH a myth?
No, it is not, but it depends on your music.  Classical music from Telarc, LSO, and a few others exhibit great soundstage width and depth.  Pop and rock not so much.  Key to the portrayal of a deep soundstage is having the speakers well out from t...
