Best redbook CD player The Bryston BCD-1 is worth considering and in your price range if you consider demos or the dealer is willing to deal.Check out the reviews. It put out impressive and involving music.
A Question About Audio Racks Check Tpsonic's system. He has what I've found to be the best combination for resonance management. Between shelf and component use Mapleshade IsoBlocks (or much, much cheaper yet and essentially the same material, V-pads from HCAV suppliers), the...
Can speaker cabinet vibrations be fixed? Another cheap tweak to significantly reduce cabinet resonance is to apply DynaMat, or one of it's clones, to the inside to the cabinet. Dynamat, and similar products, are sold at auto parts stores for damping metal panels in cars to which speakers...
Silver cables and CD players Try JPS Labs aluminum alloy cables. If you're like me, once you've heard them you'll never go back to copper or silver.I know, aluminum sounds funky, sorta like cheap storm doors and flameable houses built in the 70s. But Joe S. has come up with a...
Isolation footers for Rotel RCD-1072 Don't know the RCD-1072, but in general brass footers work particularly well under CDPs, preamps and amps. I've experimented with lots of footers and the Mapleshade Heavyfoot V3 are the best bang-for-the-buck footers I've heard. No need to remove ...
A spousal revelation ... and a tall order. Help VonSchewikert VR4JRs can be purchased used in your range and they meet your wife's criteria, which are also mine. These work especially well since the have a wide sweet spot, wide enough for two listeners side-by-side. They image especially well i...
Tube Phono? You might try some Walker's SST silver electrical contact enhancer, or similar product, on the tube pins. I used it on my Rogue and McIntosh phono sections and it made them dead quiet. So, it might help the Bellari as well. If not, at least you'll...
i have a mcintosh mc275 what speakers to choose? I'm running VR4JRs with my MC275 and the sound is sweet, articualte, dynamic. But be sure to biwire them to get them most of their capability.
one shot: KLH 17 or Large Advents? You didn't mention a price range. The Von Schweikert VR2 speakers are a great match for your intended use; with deep, powerful, articulate bass, rich midrange and extended, but not bright highs. I think there's a used pair currently on the A/Gon.
Cd Player Suggestions There are several used Bryston BCD-1 units currently advertised on the A'Gon at the upper end of your price range. They are phenomenal players. I've had mine about 4 months and I've never heard anything better. I can't imagine ever replacing it. C...
Bryston BCD-1, Rega Saturn, Simaudio CD3.3, and ? I A/B'd the Rega Saturn and Bryston BCD-1 and found the Bryston to have significantly more articulate and dynamic bass in an overall more involving player. I am a long time Rega loyalist having had the original Planet, Planet 2000 and Jupiter 2000...
Where to get replacement Rubber Feet? Go for the Herbies Big Fat Black Dots. They are vastly superior to any 'rubber feet.'
Shorting plugs.... Made my own shorting plugs to save money and I did notice an improvement despite still having open balanced inputs. You won't notice the difference right away, until you remove the plugs. Then, you'll put them back in immediately realizing that th...
Looking for some cheaper Speaker Cables-$600 or so I'm running the MC275 with VonSchweikert VR4JRs and liked the Analysis Plus Oval 9s considerably better than the Kimber I previously used. However, I took a big step up when I replaced the APs with JPS Labs Superconductor Petites - more dynamic, b...
feet and legs One of the most effective woods I've tried in combination with my maple slab is Zebrawood, available at wood specialty stores. But I use it above the slab between it and the component.I have my 2" wood slab supported on top of my vintage wooden cr... |
