Need help with stereo cabinet design. If you're considering a built-in cabinet I'd suggest locating the fan in the attic to get the fan noise as far away from the equipment, and listening position, as possible. It can vent either directly to the attic or be ducted to the outside like ...
Faraday Shielding question Thanks. I have been using ungrounded 'shields' and getting results and imagine grounding would make an even greater improvement. I'll give it a try.
Anyone else in my shoes? Ears going......... I'm over 65, my ears are not what they use to be, cannot hear above 13K on a test CD, BUT I can hear subtle differences every time I swap equipment or try a new tweak. There's no need to give up on system improvements just because of calendar age o...
How far away is your Nirvana I'll probably keep tweaking forever, just for the fun of finding seemingly insignificant mods to my current equipment that yield noticeable refinements with little expense; and just to do Something. But I've pretty much reached Nirvana with my sys...
Equipment failure with Dakiom tweaks? My experience is the same as Paladin; with both solid state and tubes I heard a noticeable improvement and there have been no operational issues or failures with the Dakiom s in the system.

Looking for a good speaker cable for tube amps. JPS Labs Superconductor Petite Bi-wires are clear, open, balanced, detailed without sounding analytical, and, natural-sounding with my tube equipment. Check them out.
Mystical Performances VHS Tape: Mark Knopfler's Night In London concertCut: Sultans of Swing - Mark's guitar riff toward the end of the piece - I'm mesmerized every time I view it and, unfortunately, it was left off of the DVD version.
Help with CD Player As Drummermitchell suggested, save up for the used/demo Bryston BCD1.
Tripods as turntable or component base? If you use a photo tripod as a component base you have effectively changed it to a monopod base resting on a tripod base. Seems to defeat the idea of a tri-point component base and replaces it with an inherently less stable monopod platform.
Jennifer Warnes 20th Ann Famous Blue Raincoat RI Thanks for the tip, and the link. I'll order it right away. One of my favorites.
any + experience with CD disc modification ? An inexpensive alternative to Stoplight CD markers is to purchase a water-based acrylic marking pen at an art supply store in your choice of colors for about $4.00. Same thing, lots cheaper.
any + experience with CD disc modification ? FWIW - I've blind tested the following tweaks with several friends and my spouse: Herbies Black Dots, freezing disks, Walker Ultra Vivid, Olde English spray polish. All listeners have noticed a difference between treated and untreated disks of the... |
