Best Record You Have Ever heard Since we're talking sound and performance, I'd vote for Prokofiev PC #2 w/ Frager and Leibowitz on RCA, Alto reissue for what it's worth. I'm glad to see that someone above also likes it. Decca was pretty hit and miss with the PCO, (and luckily it...
JMW 9 maybe likes to track carts lighter I had a kindly exchange with someone on here who had the exact same combo I did, the JMW 9 arm and Dyna xxII cart. I believe he damped the arm to improve it.
JMW 9 maybe likes to track carts lighter I'm glad you've found improvement but there shouldn't be any issues at all. Listen to a $20 thrift '80's **competently** engineered TT with perhaps an Audio Technica or Shure cart and try to contain your anger.
TECHNICS SL1200 MKII.......THE REAL FACTS Enjoyed your post, sold my Scoutmaster/Dyna XX2 combo (thank you Dan ed, etc., for saving my viny life re: unique ringing arm/tracking issues "thinning of sound myth"). I picked up a Technics D202 w/AT 130E cart which I bought on a whim for $20 in...
Your Impressions of the DV XX2 MKII Well that's great to hear; perhaps damping the arm helped. Thanks for report.
Your Impressions of the DV XX2 MKII It you'll indulge me, try the last 1/3 of Side two, as crowd marches "off to war" w/ quartet, children's choir, high brass... this stretch presented many moments of brief crackle.
Your Impressions of the DV XX2 MKII McDonald43: That is exactly the set up I had, included a desperate attempt with Mint Lp protractor as well, (and Symposium anti-vibe shelf. While it fleshed-out inner grooves better than 20xl, man, the mistracking! I had an expert over twice to do...
Your Impressions of the DV XX2 MKII Smooth, great dynamics, good at fleshing-out material in the inner grooves, but served up mis-tracking on a silver platter when combined with JMW 9 arm.
A review of the whole Ortofon 2M Series I noticed your Delius album, nice, (if you like Delius samplers try Marriner's on Argo, too) but anyway, for some really difficult high velocity tracking tests, pick up Britten's "Rejoice in the Lamb" on Argo and try the "Missa Brevis" for Boy Choir.
Almost Time to Replace My DV-20xl Stickman451:My Dealer has the XV-1 (on his top o' line Basis), Vandersteen 5a sigs (I have the 3a sigs), and I can report it handled many of my "problem" records--which I trotted over--with ease...as it better for $5K. Chashas1: thanks, I may be i...
Almost Time to Replace My DV-20xl You are right, Chashas1: ignorance is bliss and I'm more blissful listening to music right now than in a long time. Let me enjoy it until an issue arises and the upgrade bug appears again. Oh! I thought of a better cautionary metaphor: Those who a...
Almost Time to Replace My DV-20xl Hmmm..a Yugo? A preferable metaphor: one may also start off buying a beautiful expensive house...built upon sand.
Almost Time to Replace My DV-20xl Just one last word about proper set up. My dealer came to house twice. We tried 3 of standard alignment preferences with no luck. He's been in the business for 30 years, (owns top Basis TT FWIW) The moral I humbly offer is that perhaps one should ...
Almost Time to Replace My DV-20xl My suggesting attention to "cart/arm synergy " is very biased? How so? Then reporting my experience based only upon equipment about which I'm intimately familiar? Big red flag there! : )"Way past this point...." I thought I was too, $$-wise, but b...
Almost Time to Replace My DV-20xl BTW, that would be...*faint* praise. D'oh! |
