Single wiring bi-wireable speakers The biggest difference I think you'll hear is if you replace the bar jumper with jumpers made out of the Kimber, either 4TC or 8TC. There are differing opinions (not in audio you say?) about taking the cable to the upper(mid-tweets) or lower posts...
Help. What phono preamp to buy? I have had very good success with the Art Audio Vinyl One. On the used market, it is a bargain. Though I'm getting my dream phonostage soon and must part with mine, the Vinyl One has been highly enjoyable and completely trouble free. I'd suggest p...
Tubed pre-amp w/ balanced outputs? Of course, Balanced Audio Technology (BAT) comes to mind as well as the Aesthetix (sp) Callisto. Also, any of a number of tube pre using transformer-coupled outputs usually also offer balanced outs, such as Audio Note and possibly the soon to be r...
What is your most beautiful component? It has to be my WAVAC 833 monos on their Sistrum stands. Making music or not, a stunning component.
long i/c run...looking for high end cable Tbg- I used to have a very good friend (who would never stoop so low as to attempt to generate accolades from self-serving questions) that was kind enough to offer his insight on both of the items in question. Having trusted his advice previously ...
What of your gross annual income is your system? I like Newbee's approach! I always suspected that I was ill. I'm at about 2x G.Y.S. at the MSRP. Obviously, I didn't acquire everything in one year, but it does add up rather quickly. It's not the destination, but the journey that counts.
long i/c run...looking for high end cable Jon_p- I'm currently running almost 30 ft IC to my wavac 833 monos (unbalanced) and have no RFI problems. This wasn't the case with a couple of other cables I tried, though. I'm usng the Sonoran Plateau cable and am quite pleased with the results....
If you're happy: why switch? Warrenh- If you like the Sistrum stands, you might consider giving their (Sonoran) cables a try. I did and am quite pleased with the results. Enjoy.
New CDP on the way--Advise, please Avguygeorge- I'm interested in knowing why you believe the downstream device needs to be powered on? You are absolutely correct in that the device under burn-in (DUB?) does need to drive something to properly burn-in. The output stage of the CDP d...
best CD transport available? Cost no object, CD-only transport = Goldmund 36+I prefer it over their new Eidos 38 in terms of low-end weight and musicality in the context of my system, and it's visually stunning. As always, just my opinion.
What's the best isolation system? Sgr- I stand with those who have had great success with the Sistrum stands. They are nothing short of amazing in my system on my amps and speakers. When funds permit, I'll be buying a couple of racks for my tt and front-end electronics. As for aes...
I need to get suggestions on a high gain phono pre I'd also suggest you check into the Art Audio Vinyl 1 - tubes with step-up transformers. Occasionally, you can find one used. It is a great unit. Good luck.
I just installed NOS tubes? Most line level tubes that I've tried seem to take around 50 hours (some more, many less) to stabilize. Chuck certainly has a point. Depending on the surrounding passive components, the preferred tube could be the tubes supplied by the manufacture...
Box speakers that sound like Electrostats? Dennis- I agree with those who have stated that there is a fundamental difference on how the two produce sound. I've not heard any box speaker that "sounds like" an esl. However, that doesn't mean that box speakers can't be equally outstanding, bu...
Sand or Lead shot Ken- Check out Star Sound products. They have a product, MicroFil (sp?), that I had very good results in my turntable stand. I had been using sand, but MicroFil did improve image focus and dynamics. Good luck. |
