Transformer coupled / Capacitor coupled
You could not do transformer passive. That is impossible by the very nature in how it works. There are many tube pre-amps but most only use capacitor coupling. This makes impedance matching to the amplifier Sorry
Transformer coupled / Capacitor coupled
THE THREAD ACTUALLY STATED THE OPPOSITE! Most manufacturers utilize capacitor coupling. Very few use transformer coupling as it is expensive and time consuming. The most unusual feature is line output stage, which is configured as a small power am...
using a transformer to separate your gear power
Radiate,I would guess that your isolation transformer is not big enough for that much current draw. Note my previous thread about the ratio. Even if 20:1 is overkill I think your running into transformer saturation. We usually prefer these devices...
Single box CD players with NO oversampling?
Hi Z'man,I appreciate your threads. Your comparison on upsampling vs. non-upsampling was a fine piece of work. Didn't mean to come across as defensive. The Audio Note DAC's do not use digital filters but do use custom analogue filters. In fact, th...
Single box CD players with NO oversampling?
Zaikesman. There have been hundreds if not thousands of Audio Note Dac's sold world wide. I have never heard of one person who had a problem because of what you have described. Many are not used with Audio Note amps. A Goldmund amplifier produces ...
Single box CD players with NO oversampling?
If it is 4 times oversampling it is not the same as Audio Note. In addition, The ARC does not use the same chipset as Audio Note or the 47. The Audio Note uses no up or oversampling and no digital filter. The results are astonishing.
Best 300B Integrated Amp
Audio Note! It's got it all. 'nuff said :):)
Why do the Audio Note preamps sound so much better
I would like to thank those members who took the time to take me up on a shootout between passive devices and transformer coupled pre-amps. Thanks again
using a transformer to separate your gear power
The 20:1 ratio was the number used by the company that manufactures the ISO isolation device in order to prevent transformer saturation. This of course had a large margin of safety in it.
using a transformer to separate your gear power
Isolation transformers should have a 20:1 ratio to work properly which is why we generally recommend them for digital components, televisions or pre's. As an example your IT should be rated at 8kVA to avoid transformer saturation. I may be in over...
Tweeter Dome Puncture
It is probably the dust cap you are referring too. Should not affect the speaker.
power up and shut down
Have you tried a different brand interconnect?
power up and shut down
I would leave the pre-amp on all the time unless advised otherwise by the manufacturer. Otherwise it is best to always have preamp on and stabalized to ensure solid state amp sees no DC during warmup. I still prefer to leave my tubed preamps on al...
The Amp Quits Agin -- Am I Missing Something?
Doesn't sound like anything obvious. Have you checked to see if any fuses have blown. Sometimes there will be some inside the amp for each channel. I'm not sure regarding this particular amp. That is where I would start though. If all ok there I t...
Try running satellite dish through DAC for music
Sean that is true. Even the analogue outputs aren't bad though but as you say not nearly as good as when running it through a seperate DAC. When buying a new box or HDTV converter box try to find one with the customary toslink as well as a coax ou...
