Tube Amp Hum
My refrigerator? Definately not....The system is on a completely dedicated circuit, there is no cable system on this circuit whatsoever. It is not a ground loop. Newbee, I will try the tube reversal as you mentioned. Sounds like an idea.
Tube Amp Hum
Correction now that both my wife and I listened for it. It seems louder out of the left channel than the right, and....It is faintly audible from the listening area, not just at the speaker. I gotta tell ya, if there is way to resolve this noise I...
Tube Amp Hum
Thanks Newbee...Yes it is when I am at the speaker only that I can hear it, not from the listening position which is only about 8 or 9 feet away. I moved my ICs around a bit and there was no effect whatsoever, and they are shielded (97% according ...
VTL 5.5 questions
Yes, the phonostage is available for the 2.5 as well...You bring up a good point though about not being able to sell separately. I asked my dealer how many they sell of each, IE with and without phono, and they said it is about 50/50. For me getti...
VTL ST-85 vs. VTL ST-150 or rather EL34 vs 6550
I agree..There are as many bad dealers out there as there is bad advice. I am lucky to have found the dealer I did, and their loaner policy was extremely flexible, and they were patient. Thats all one can really ask. I personally look back and sti...
Has iTunes, etc. impacted your listening habits?
Wavelength Audio Cosecant owner and it has forever changed the way I listen to my collection...And it sounds better than the G08 I auditioned next to it for two full weeks-in every single way. It made me a believer it computer audio and tubes. I w...
VTL 5.5 questions
To actually answer the question at hand here....Yes, it would be a fairly significant upgrade. More tubes, upgraded caps, two power supplies (dual mono design, balanced outputs. Also has phase control, a useless feature for me personally, but an a...
Rockport Mira and Mira Monitors
I saw and heard the Mira Monitor, very nice. But I can't for get past that they just seem like they were designed for a HT application, and I don't like the stands. They sound nice though, but to me you can do better for the $$.
VTL ST-85 vs. VTL ST-150 or rather EL34 vs 6550
I just wish the dealers I visited over the years introduced me to tubes much earlier. I spent so much time looking for SS that sounded like this system that I feel like I wasted time.
Amazingly Close to Krell Sound
If Krell did ever make a tube amp, I am sure they would still find a way to make the sibilance cut your eyeballs out when you listened.
VTL ST-85 vs. VTL ST-150 or rather EL34 vs 6550
I had a Rotel a few years back, same one I think. never looked back after I heard a krell amp next to the Rotel..Then I hearxd VTl and it put the krell to shame. Never been so satisfied with my audio system as I am now. Rotel and Krell are in my p...
Has anyone done the VTL coupling cap upgrade?
I did it, but I did right out of the gate and had my st-150 built that way. I can't say what it sounded like before 'the upgrade'. I can say however, this is the best amp I have ever owned. And I have owned amps that were much more costly than this.
VTL ST-85 vs. VTL ST-150 or rather EL34 vs 6550
Cheese, you described it exactly. Piano strikes are profound and the decay of a piano (which is an important characteristic of the instrument) are recreated accurately. Guitar is also incredibly well represented, best I have heard for either instr...
VTL TL2.5 Preamp
What are the tweaks you did to the 2.5?
VTL ST-85 vs. VTL ST-150 or rather EL34 vs 6550
I have never heard piano sound like it does on this amp...Incredibly real.
