Lowering the noise floor
Sometimes you don't know how much noise you are hearing until it's gone.  Have you ever been in a room that you thought was quiet and then suddenly the room becomes dead quiet and you realize that the humming noise from the compressor in the refri...
Amp upgrade advice
@randy-11: Completely agree with your comment on room treatments for a room this size.
Michael Fremer's system
@mr. m.  It's called "put your money where your mouth is."  I see nothing wrong with what he said so I respectfully disagree with you. Fremer is very fortunate to have a system of that caliber.
Current recording engineers - what cables used?
@maplegrovemusic +3 on the pink floyd article.  Thank you! It seems that much of the perfection that goes into the sound; the placement of instruments, the room itself, the equipment, the cables is lost when the final product (millions of units in...
Isolation Transformers: my experience and concerns
Currently, my preamp is the only component plugged into an isolation transformer.  I concluded that this was the best combination and removed all other isolation transformers from my system.  Interesting that you found the same results.
connect 2 different wire gauge to pos and neg speaker terminal
@almarg One of the best posts I have ever read on audiogon.  Your explanation seems logical, takes some of the mystery out of cable theory, and "almost" makes me want to fiddle with cable design.  I do appreciate that it is more complex than it se...
Female Vocal Collection on Vinyl??
Looks like it's an ad from HDTracks.  I did not see anything about vinyl mentioned.
Ayre Codex dac and headphone connections question
Good advice, Bob.  I appreciate it.
Ayre Codex dac and headphone connections question
Ah.  I suspect you are correct.  That must be why Moon audio sells wire with two 1/8" amp ends.  This makes total sense and sure makes it more convenient to attach and listen to headphones.  Thank you, Mark.
Do female audiophiles exist
+1 for Terri Inman and the rest of the crew at Stereotypes. Terri knows her stuff.  Great sense of humor too.
Does my laptop need to be grounded when charging?
Thank you, George.  I will try a different one and see if it is better.
Does my laptop need to be grounded when charging?
I tried flipping the polarity on the charger plug and no difference.  I already own a Regen and was considering the ISO Regen upgrade or move to the Intona.  Was hoping other Codex owners would chime in before I spend the additional $$.
Does my laptop need to be grounded when charging?
Thank you, Erik.  Yes, my dac already employs "galvanic isolation to the outputs" but not really sure if this means I shouldn't be concerned about noise coming into the dac.  Some of these isolators are inexpensive while others such as the Intona ...
Jerry Garcia, A Legacy?
I'm not a musician but I love music.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  It doesn't matter which music moves us as much as the fact that it does.  I enjoy the GD, I connect with their music.  But every time I listen to BW "God only knows" I am...
Amps from the 1980's -- What gear holds up sonically? Reliably?
This was a fun thread to peruse.  Anyone mention Electrocompaniet or Superphon?  Think these were around in the '80s.
