What are the top 3 USB cables being used today in reference systems?
I can vouch for and highly recommend the original Curious.Have used it with a Chord Qutest first with a Melco N1A and more recently with a Roon Nucleus.Been well reviewed from the likes of Darko, HIFI-Advice and Audio Bacon.
Streamer Advice Lumin, Auralic, Innuos Others?
When it comes to SQ it's all about the precision of the clock, the cleanliness of the signal, and lowering the noise floor.  Quieter is better.Everything in your digital food chain counts. Router, switches, ethernet cabling, how your music is stor...

@cascadephil  Thanks.Bryston 3BST / Bryston BP20 has been my amp / preamp combo since 2004.   Been driving CS 2.4s since 2011.  Before that CS .5s.    When I purchased used pair, my dealer still had brand new CS 2.4s on the floor, and was my Bryst...
Streamer Advice Lumin, Auralic, Innuos Others?
I think that going the Bluesound route would be an excellent way to get your feet wet.  That is the route I went 5 years ago. At the same time I also went about the business of ripping my entire CD collection as uncompressed flac files using dBpow...

@cascadephil I'd be curious to know if you ever tried using your Hegel H190 to drive your Thiels ... and if so what you thought of the pairing.Hegel specs say their integrated amps are stable down to 2 ohms.So if so, all that is left is if it's a ...
OK, Streamers: "Head" units only...?
I think the Bluesound Node occupies something of a sweet spot in terms of value for your audiophile dollar. The Blu OS interface is first rate and the Bluesound folks do a good job of keeping it up to date.  Add a decent external DAC and you are o...
OK, Streamers: "Head" units only...?
How about Roon Nucleus connected directly to your Chord Qutest via USB. I know by your definition it may not qualify as strictly a "head unit", but it definitely meets all of your other criteria, including your budget and arguably the best app out...

Upgrade path from Windows laptop music server
@sebrof @Jazzman7: In your #1 / Bluesound route, where would electroslacker store his music files? Or is that option only for streaming, no files? Any network share would work. My first NAS was simply an external hard drive plugged into my router...
Upgrade path from Windows laptop music server
PS.  Bluesound kit and Roon can both be controlled by PC, MAC, tablet, and/or smartphone including both Android and IOS devices.
Upgrade path from Windows laptop music server
Hello electroslacker!First a couple of questions. Is this a desktop system where you are just listening to headphones or are you feeding speakers as well ... and if so can you tell us more about the rest of your system. And very importantly ... what...
Recommend service to convert music CDs to high quality digital files
If you have a PC equipped with a CD drive with which to burn CDs, I suggest giving dBpoweramp a try.  They have a 3 week free trial period.  If you like it it's only $39.  If you have a windows PC which doesn't have a CD writer, an external CD wri...
Need some guidance with music server and cd ripping.
The only major knock that I have against the Elac Discovery is that when it comes to streaming services, it is limited to Tidal. The product itself is very nice, I evaluated one for my local dealer a few years ago, and at the time thought it a sup...
Want a streaming device without DAC in $1K range
Another option, especially if you are considering going the Roon route, is to pair a Roon Nucleus with a good USB capable DAC.  With a decent USB cable connecting the two, this makes for a marvelous pairing.  I am currently using a Roon Nucleus ti...

Concerning Audio Consultants:I was just there on Friday. There is not much left, and what is left can now be had for 35% off. I don’t recall seeing a pair of 2.4s when last there, and I don’t think they have been bothering to keep the used list up...
