How can I get the best possible sound from my PC?
Use wav files or some lossless compression on wav files. Get a good proaudio sound card with digital output. Use an external DAC. EAC is the best ripping program.Foobar is the best player.Plextor make the best CD-RW drives.
Would like some opinions on tube rolling
You would be better served by surfing AA's tube forum and educuating yourself as to alternative tubes. Then buy what you want on eBay.
Bryston 7 BSST or Sim Audio Moon W 10 for PMC MB1
Normally I would recommend Sim Audio over Bryston, but not in this case. Sim Audio Moons have a high damping factor that starves the bass with transmission-line speakers. At the minimum audition before you buy.

Artar1 - I would say that you have made a very accurate assessment of the cortese without having heard it. The one caveat being that with the neutrality of the cortese it will be possible to add some ying or yang with proper tube-rolling.
Preamp Deal of the Century
Artar1 - just for clarification purposes. I would not consider the Cortese "high-pitched, overly defined, etched, clinical, bright, or overly dynamic". It is certainly not etched or cinical. However it also certainly does not have that "golden" so...

Artar1 - I have an older model Cortese linestage with only 12db gain. Current models have 27db gain. I can't comment on the phono stage but judging from the linestage I don't think there is the any romanticism in the Supratek Preamps. They tend to...
Sim Audio Moon P-5 too dry
I know the P5, it is very transparent. I also know the Bryston sound since I own a 4B-ST. I think your problem is that the Sim Audio P5's transparency is revealing the dryness of the Bryston power amp.
Kharma, Wilson Sophia, JM Labs I'm confussed????
There are no kharma dealers in the whole state of texas. Kharma whips JM Labs without even trying. I prefer the lowliest Kharma over even the Grande Utopia Be's. But try telling that the JM Labs dealer in DFW, he'll never listen.
help thiel 2.4 placement???
place them where you ears tell you they sound best. you might want to start at 6" and move them out from the wall in 2" increments until you find the best place. my 2.3's are about a foot from the wall. i think it is more important to have ample d...
Sim Audio Moon W5 vs. Bryston 4bsst
I own a 4B-ST and W5. The W5 smokes even the 7B-ST, which I had in my system for a 1 week demo. Compared to the Brystons the W5 is much more liquid, refined, and dynamic. Additionally the W5 is much more airy than the brystons.

Swampwalker - there is a gain attentuator on the back of the syrah that is independent of the volume control, turning it counter-clockwise opens it up. Make sure your input and output are selected properly. Other than that, you should go to Mick.
Thiel 1.6 vs 2.3 vs 3.6
Let your ears judge which is best. But I don't know about mating any of these with you amp. Be sure to audition them together. Even if it means taking your amp to the dealer.

Ecclectique - How do you "discover" these wildcat tube substitutions? FWIW, the 6V6G and similar tubes also work as regs in the supratek.
Power Cord upgrade for Sim Audio Titan amp???
I use Shunyata Taipan on my Sim Audio W5. IMS it doesn't alter the character of the amp, just delivers the high current when it is called for. You might want to give it a try.

Clipsal, the Sylvania VT-231 and Sylvania 6SN7GT tall-boy (green letterring and VT-231 construction) are probably the best choices for your tastes. I would get one pair of each and decide for yourself which you prefer. Roll the regulators while yo...
