tube pre suggestions
Sorry, I re-read your post and picked up the need for remote contorl.I don't use them so my brain skipped that part of your post initially. Nevertheless, the pre-amps I talked about are fine 2 ch pre-amps minus the convenience of a remote.
tube pre suggestions
Airt tight ATC-3; rarely talked about on Audiogon. I have had one for years - it was a fine, excellent sounding tube pre-amp. Then I had Jospeh Chow of Audio Horizons modify it - he even took out the power supply and built another box to house it ...
Wyred4S or Belles for Usher Be718?
I have a W4S 125 wpc amplifier. It sounds almost pathologically smooth. I previously owned the Usher speaker you have. With a Meridian 200 wpc solid state amp it was too forward, etched and brittle for me. I ended up selling both.I can only guess t...
Thinking about moving to a tube pre - suggestions.
A tube pre-amp that is not talked about much is the Air-Tight. I have one and absolutely love it. It sounded really nice in the stock form and I had it modified and it is a giant killer. Used on AG you can find them for about 1800 dollars. Chow at...
2k budget for Amp
I have an "extra" FET-Valve 550 hybrid amp, just didn't realize it ran class A for the first 20 watts??It is a nice sounding amp though it has been modified and the RCA inputs have been changed to balanced inputs. It sounds lovely and airy......
Tired of Problems with Tube Equipment
Mitch, that has been my solution for the most part - solid state amps, preferably high-powered and class A, and tube pre-amps. If you really understand tube amps and know how to troubleshoot them, they probably are not a problem at all.
Tired of Problems with Tube Equipment
I love tube pre-amps and they have been very reliable - Quicksilver and AirTight. Tube amps are a different story. I had two and sold them both, a Music Reference and VTL monoblocks. The monoblocks were so full of problems, and the response I got ...
verdict on class D amps?
Kijanki, I meant mid-range not mid-bass in my last response. Musta had a bit of brian ischemia........
verdict on class D amps?
Kijanki, lean in the mid-bass is, I think, what I was getting at when I said that is was not as big-hipped as the Music Reference tube amp. My W4S amp is not fully borken in but it is on the silky, clean, but lean side of musical presentation......
verdict on class D amps?
It depends on your taste which will be determined by your ears and what your brain's sonic preferences are. I have listened to tube amps (Music Reference), hybrid (Audio VanAlstine 250 wpc Fetvalve 550, and class A solid state monblocks (300 wpc S...
vanalstine fet valve amplifiers
I ran mine with Platinum Audio Solo and Audio Physic Avanti Century III speakers and it sounded really good.I subsequently had the amp modified to balanced outputs and upgraded wiring and internal parts (Jospeh Chow, Audio Horizions)and that took ...
Better speakers than Von Schweiker VR4jr under 3k
Hell if you are going to spend 3 grand, the Emerald Physic's cost in this range brand new and are excellent sonic full-range peerformers. I have both the EP's and VR4JR's in two systems sitting side by side. I am very impressed by both and happen ...
Better speakers than Von Schweiker VR4jr under 3k
I have the Von Schweikert VR4JR speakers and alsmost sold them - until I got rid of their datlink between the upper and lower modules and biwired the speaker with Morrow Audio SP2 silver/copper cables. Holy Schmoly! They are entirely different spe...
Speaker Packing?
Thanks! It must've been the genius in me that has kept me from shipping speakers - I was cured when I opened a box and a one of Spica Angelus I had shipped off to be repaired bas literally broken in two......
