perreaux is a great brand, but at this stage lots of great brands aren't going to crack the u.s. especially those that have been around for decades. duntech? osborne? garrott bros? go figure.

cables are they worth it?
cables are as much about personal taste as sound(like all componants). since you have one of finest speakers ever made, something without exageration such as van den hul should be fine.

a 10k itch may get scratched, and you'll only get 'different' and maybe a baby step 'better'. keep the aerials, unless you just want some cool cabinets like avalon.

start with the speakers. you can actually get small footprint dynamic floorstanders that will excell on all types of music....only a downgrade of space and cost, not sound.

Silky and soft highs II: CD reference tests
most of todays cd players handle 'reference' discs incredibly well(even cheaper ones). the sonic shortcomings you're refering to are most often in the recording, a by product of the mastering of the disc itself.
