How to explain our obsessions to the uninitiated?
Mr. T - That's really not an explanation at all of what he's asking about. He loves music too. His wife is first chair viola in an orchestra for over 40 years and teaches music at home. He was asking to understand the boxes themselves and why one ...
How to explain our obsessions to the uninitiated?
Yeah, that one's outt'a here! So much for referring Dad to this thread! As I said, he wasn't questioning any investment. I actually haven't spent anything on my system in a very long time so it's a non-issue.
How to explain our obsessions to the uninitiated?
Thanks for the great responses so far. Maybe I'll end up just referring him to this thread! To be clear, I don't know that his curiosity stemmed from the dollars and cents, as it did from wanting to understand the motivations of the folks like me ...
an amp without "electronic" sound
Good implementation of SET amplification can sound astoundingly natural and present, as can OTL (the latter having less 'limitations' as SET with perhaps a 'cooler' presentation for lack of a better descriptor - perhaps it is they are more neutral...
Klipsch La Scala --two types?
Jax2, is it likely the mid 80's La Scalas do not have the K55M and the K77? Is this something that was added to the newer models?Actually the drivers and crossover I recommended are from the older models and were replaced with less desirable compo...
Brandi Carlile
Thanks for that - I loved her first CD and will pick this one up shortly. In the same vein you may also enjoy Mindy Smith, Cat Powers and Feist.
Klipsch La Scala --two types?
The industrial type you describe were built for portability. Some later versions came apart into a top and bottom half. They are not identical in terms of the cabinet, of course, but the drivers are all the same (which, as you know, varied over th...
Nearfield listening
Silverline Sonatinas work great for me in nearfield with 9 watts/side.

New Product......Intelligent Box
I'm not saying the product is good....I haven't tried it. How could anyone who hasn't tried it know for sure? Such as you. If its no good it won't last, the market will take care of things.I'm not saying it's good either. I'm speculating based upo...
Subwoofer integration with Silverline Sonata MK111
I have a pair of Sonatinas that I use an ACI Force XL sub with. Integration in my room was a bit tricky. I'd highly recommend using an SPL meter and a test tone sampler disc to aid you in the process. Obviously the different speakers, different ro...
New Product......Intelligent Box
Damn, Albert, I think you've come up with my new slogan! Just funnin' you HiFiGuy. Indeed my open mind does not extend to embrace some products and services, including the one you've pointed out here. I've got another opening where those kinds of ...

You all are just closed minded!!I've got a Perch™ with your name on it engraved with a brushed billet plaque with a blue LED indicator light that illuminates when the quantum material has reached critical mass. I saw you coming and knew you had t...
High Efficiency Speakers 4 PC
You probably won't need as high a sensitivity as you might think from a pair of monitors that you will be listening to in the nearfield. I have a pair of Soliloquy Sat-5 mini-monitors downstairs from my listening room in my kitchen. I was surprise...
Which speakers will fill 5,000 cubic ft coherently
I'd concur that integrating a good sub effectively with a pair of speakers definitely improves upon soundstaging abilities of the mains in my experience. These improvements have been in the 3-dimensional depth and width of soundstage, and in pinpo...
