The Best Sounding Beatles CDs
I don't know if you're just talking about collective sets, since that what's you mention. The recently released CD titled, "Love" is quite good acoustically. Sgt. Pepper was revolutionary for its time, and still sounds engaging to me.
KT88 Opinions
I've heard alot of good things about EAT KT88 tubes. No direct experience, but some good words from a respected friend. Good words in the Brit HiFi press. I'd look into them as well.
Golden Ear award for $55 speaker tweak
Those look like what Spica used to use on their TC-50's (I'm sure I've seen the same thing on other speakers as well). I can't help but think it looks an awful lot like the stuff you can get for your furniture at Home Depot to prevent scratching t...
Most subs seem too powerful
With subs, setup, room placement, hookup option, adjustment, are all critical. You might want to do some research on that. You may find that tweaking those adjustments are all you need. Most folks tend to set them up on the overkill side, which te...
Allison Moorer - Mochingbird
Boy, maybe I got a bad copy; mine sounds a bit flat, lacking in dynamic range. I like the music though.Reminded me of Shelby Lynne's latest too.Allison is Shelby Lynne's younger sister. She sings with her on a few cuts on another live CD I have of...
Convert MP3 file to WAV in Mac Mini
In a previous thread, "Lossy to Lossless" I reported that when I converted some old MP3s to Apples Lossless, they sounded better. I have not done any blind tests, but have converted about 50 of them and listened to most several times. I stand by m...
Convert MP3 file to WAV in Mac Mini
On a MacMini in iTunes, your best bet next to WAV is Apple Lossless. Supposedly it is a lossless compression scheme (so no data is lost), while, as already pointed out, it takes up practically half the space of a WAV file. If you want to find out ...
Convert MP3 file to WAV in Mac Mini
Why would you ever want to do that? Not only will it not create a "better" sounding file, as has been pointed out, it may actually sound worse. Essentially the software is having to make an educated guess at filling in all the blanks, as it were. ...
The Definition of An Audiophile
An audiophile is someone who assembles a stereo system with care and then attempts to better it as a hobby.Robr45 - That's pretty much it. Nothing more need be said. Relative to some of the conversation here I would add that the actual "improvemen...
Norah Jones a tinge short
Gotta agree Norah on Blue Note (not the HDCD) is harsh on the highs. Enough to give me a headache after 5-6 songs.Women who don't sing love songs?!?!?! C'mon man, there's plenty. Just as fast as I can type, off the top of my head, and among my fav...
do cds sound better when transf via apple lossless
I'm no expert in these realms, but I do play one on TV. I believe the operative principal here is that you are going from what comparatively may be an unstable spinning plastic disc in a transport, the moving laser read mechanism, and the circuits...
How to explain our obsessions to the uninitiated?
Have you considered medication Joey? No, seriously, I appreciate a personal visual aesthetic and it seems like some of my best friends are obsessive about one thing or other. Live and let live. One man's blinking LED's are another man's sharp stic...
How to explain our obsessions to the uninitiated?
Great feedback and LOL. I think I'll keep my johnson in my pants and out of the conversation. Measuring tools will likewise be left out of the dialog. As interested as he was in finding out more about my motivations, I do believe there is a line i...

How to explain our obsessions to the uninitiated?
So I did actually sit down and write out an email to my FIL, which did start an bit of a further dialogue on the subject. I think he got it. It remains to be seen if he'll take the time to sit down and listen, and whether or not it will mean anyth...
