The best speaker you ever heard?
Not the best, but most memorable. In a dorm room, pair of KLH 17s driven by Dynaco st-70 playing Doors Hello I Love You.  Punchy juicy sound, probably colored with distortions.  But, boy, I loved it.

The old Magnum Dynalab Etude or FT101's had three cool-looking meters and a digital frequency readout.  Not bad a a tuner either.

Your last concert was to see who and when?
Just saw Yuko Mabuchi (again!), this time at the Vibrato Grill in Bel Air, California. With Yuko were her trio mates, Del Atkins (bass) and Bobby Breton (drums), as well as guest Robert Kyle (saxes and flute). They put together a polished, elegant ...

What is this odd little box I've been storing for years?

What is this odd little box I've been storing for years?
Just curious. If it is a turntable power supply, shouldn't it have an AC socket as well as an AC cord?
What is this odd little box I've been storing for years?
From your description, this box has only one electrical connection, a power cord.It reminds me of the "parallel line conditioners" of old. These devices were supposed to clean your AC line power. Two examples that I can recall are the Tice Clock an...

We give up perspective to avoid tone controls
Most rooms would benefit from some equalization to compensate for dimension and decor effects, especially if no room treatments are used.Don't know many people who listen in an anechoic chamber at home.I guess one reason to eschew at-home equaliza...
for Los Angeles can anyone recommend someone to hire install phono cartridge
One thing I have found with all the many in-store experts I have dealt with is that even the so-called turntable specialist will sell you the wrong belts for your rig, all representations of knowledgeability to the contrary.  Typical high end?

I had a nice long chat during my first visit to Brooks Berdan Ltd in Monrovia today.  They have great expertise and a lot of experience with turntable setup.  Another terrific go-to shop for your phono needs.
Having a problem when HVAC system turns on and cuts my system off!
Every time my washer started a new cycle, I would get a thump out of my subwoofer due to the drop in voltage.  Essentially, the voltage dropped enough so that the amp in the sub did an off / on cycle which caused the thump.I needed something to su...
