Who u gots da most uv???
I bought the Stones SACD reissues, the whole series. Next might be Brad Mehldau -- I have everything he's done, or Miles Davis since I have the Plugged Nickel box, or an old collection of Beethoven's symphonies on vinyl bought by my parents.
Jazz for relaxation
Here are two nominations from the smooth jazz genre: Chris Botti's Thousand Kisses Deep and Jeff Golub's Do It Again. If you like these, there's a lot more.
phono preamp with volume control
The Manley Steelhead has a volume control. Lotsa reviewers like it, but it's not cheap. I use one for my phono, and I also put my digital source through its line input using single ended connections. (The digital source also goes direct to my line...

Periodic blue screen
My guess is that the Samsung will show a blue screen if it does not sense an incoming video signal -- the blue screen would be a default display when there is no signal.I would start by checking the video link. Try replacing the cable between the ...
Why haven't we heard more about HR-X???
For me, the two operative ideas are "design philosophy" and "best of breed."I think that at the higher end of the spectrum most equipment will sound good. If I just avoid the obvious incompatible matches, I should be aurally happy with the result....
Why haven't we heard more about HR-X???
Rick,I was familiar with and liked the Graham arm from my preceding turntable, and it has been my impression that it is a better arm than the JMW in its several iterations. Without having had the JMW, this was just a guess on my part, derived from...
Why haven't we heard more about HR-X???
My guess is this is the result of specific decisions by the managers of VPI.First, there aren't too many HR-Xs around to make it easy to send one out to review. The first production run consisted of twenty-five units, all spoken for early on. The ...
Amplifier and preamplifier for Wilson Watt puppy 7
I like the sound of my WATT/Puppy 6s with Pass amplification (X600s and X1). Wilson often uses VTL electronics with its speakers at shows.
Anybody got the new VPI Ring Clamp?I heard.....
I have one.Usage: The ring clamp just hangs on the outer edge of the record. It is not difficult to place it -- same effort level as placing the LP on the platter.Sound: For me, it seems to tighten up the soundstage, fix the images a little more f...
Turntable Problems
Frankly, a broken stylus probably wouldn't generate a lot of hum. The hum would suggest some kind of a short or a grounding problem. Also, if the stylus were broken off, you really shouldn't be able to hear any music. (You could hear music if the ...
Fluctuating volume in one channel
The only time I've had this was with a bad wiring connection. Jiggling the interconnects made it go away. I don't know if it was a bad contact in the interconnects or (more likely) a bad solder joint at the socket. Good luck.
Any experience with unbalanced channels--7B-ST?
I'm concerned that your right channel 7B ST has a bad amplifier module.Per the owner's manual available on the Bryston web site, each 7B ST monobloc consists of two amplifier modules. They can be connected in series or parallel, depending on your ...
Close call for High Altitude Audio
I saw it. The news made it sound like he was pissed at an adverse zoning board decision. I figure he is knocking down the establishments of the people on the zoning board that he thinks voted against his petition. I'm glad the audio store was spar...
Am I really smart or really stupid?
Not a bad theory, but you might be missing important points. The phono preamp needs to amplify the small signal from the cartridge. The quality of the amplification circuits should not be taken for granted. I have seen 'philes comment that these ci...
