REL sub hook up Just to add an observation: the REL is a powered sub, so your signal will be going into an amp with a 100k impedance. You will not be attempting to drive the unit's cone woofer, which in turn has an 8 ohm impedance. It should work fine.
Tonearm lift at end of record - Expressimo Lift Too expensive? Expressimo's web site (www.expressimoaudio.com) offers the "Lifter" product for $49.95 plus $6.50 for shipping and handling. Other models go up to $125 with shipping. I have one of them, and I would describe it as a well-made good d...
Sony SCD-1 or SCD-XA9000ES for stereo Well, my SCD-1 became steadily less willing to recognize discs even with my repeated use of the on/off and open/close controls, so I took it in to my local authorized Sony repair shop last month. (I was going to play a nice tune for my wife, but i...

Waltz for Debby-Bill Evans Trio Jazz at the Pawnshop is great for that "live in the jazz club" experience.
Platter Upgrade for VPI HW MK lll to MKlV Also, watch your weights and clearances. The heavier platter may require different suspension springs or else your plinth might be tilted. The thicker platter may require a higher dustcover, assuming you have the low-rise dustcover standard for th...
Changes to the Watt/Puppy System 8 Their ad in the current TAS describes the new tweeter as the same as the one used in the MAXX.
Dual 704 Turn Table Yes, you need a phono preamp. Check to see if your receiver or amp has a phono preamp built in. If not, you would need to get one.No, needles are not universal. It would be advisable to look carefully at the device (cartridge) that the needle proj...
Salamander AV Rack I agree with Kal. I think the Twin 20 is fine for your plasma and also a good place for your video electronics (e.g., CATV box, DVD player). I would recommend getting another rack for your audio electronics and locating the turntable on top of that.
Did I smoke my centre channel..?? If there's some way you can check to see if your CC amp is putting out significant DC current, this could result in overheating after a longish listening session. It would eventually result in smoke and smell, but still sound OK with a short liste...
Jazz recommendations? I just enjoyed a new release that came out this week, The Body and Soul Sessions by the Philippe Saisse Trio. Jazzy renditions of popular favorites, like Steely Dan's Do It Again, the Beatles' Lady Madonna, and James Taylor's Fire and Rain. If not...
Jazz at the pawnshop I have found Three Blind Mice recordings to be very well done. They are jazz, but they are not live recordings like Pawnshop.
Adjusting tt speed on the cheap:any tricks? Many strobe discs are marked to work with lighting that pulses 120 times a second, just like regular wall power. Maybe you could xerox a friend's strobe disc then use a regular incandescent bulb light in a darkened room.
Help Consistent mistracking in the beginning of lp How about too much horizontal bearing friction? Is there an adjustment (tighten or loosen)? Are any lubricants recommended?
Pass Labs X-600 vs. X350.5 vs. SoundLabs? First, if you're happy with the JC-1s, I'd stay with them.Second, if you really must try the Pass amps, the X350.5 is supposed to be more liquid and pleasing, as well as the more current model. While the X-600s are arguably the best of the X serie... |
