How many pair of speakers do you own?
Eight pairs + one center channel. Of these, six pairs plus the center channel are in service in various rooms of the house. In addition, I have five subwoofers. (Not to mention incidental stuff like computer speakers.)
Component Video cable recommendation
I notice you seem to share my preference for silver conductor. I recently bought a set of AudioQuest YIQ-5 component cables with silver conductors. (I got great service from The Cable Company in New Hope, Pennsylvania.) My picture looks fine and I...
Consumer Electronic Show ?
Simone,As to whether you can get in, I went to the CES web site and found the following on a FAQ page, which I quote:"If I have a badge, can I walk right into the show?"No, each registrant who receives a badge by mail will need to go to a Badge Ho...
What's that ticking noise in my speakers?
Maybe you had a hair or fiber on your disc and it fell off when the disc was ejected. Anyhow, be happy that it is gone.
Consumer Electronic Show ?
My understanding it that you have to identify yourself as an industry professional to get in. However, friendly dealers will sometimes lend you an affiliation to overcome this barrier. From reading show reports, I gather there is usually lots of i...
Are there speakers like this?
Sounds like the AR 3a.
Pre amp for Pass Aleph 3
I'm happy feeding an Aleph 3 directly from a Mark Levinson 390S CD player. I have also had good experiences in another system using a Pass Aleph P (and an Aleph Ono), which was supposedly designed to mate with the Aleph basic amps. A used one shou...

Vinh Vu, an Audiogon member, at Gingko Audio makes great turntable dust covers, including terrific custom work.
how do you use an equalizer?
I would use the equalizer to compensate for room effects and system imperfections, as well as to reflect my frequency response preferences. For the compensation part, use a sound level meter and a frequency sweep recording to find the settings tha...
Acoustic Foam Panels - Blu Tack ???
I don't think the Blu Tack is strong enough to hold the panels. If you can get them to stay up initially, they are likely to pull off after a little while. Chazz' and Photon's suggestions seem like better ways to secure panels.
Smooth Jazz Freak needs New Artists
Not "new" artists, here are five smooth jazz "classics" with my favorite albums: Breezin by George Benson, Duotones by Kenny G, The In Crowd by Ramsey Lewis, A Day in the Life by Wes Montgomery, and Mister Magic by Grover Washington, Jr.
Reasonably accurate, inexpensive dB meter--ideas?
I remember reading that Radio Shack discontinued its analog sound level meter and that the rights were bought by ATI, which now markets the product with an improved frequency response. (I recall that the Radio Shack version had a sensitivity fall ...
Harmon Kardon hk870, 825 help please
Hopefully someone can properly interpret the flashing indicator lights. If not, try outputing the preamp into a known working amp. If you can get a radio station to play out your speakers this way, the HK 870s should go to a repair shop.Otherwise, ...
pass 350 on top of revel b15 subwoofer?
You might get some interference from unshielded magnetic fields from either the sub or the amp. Better to separate the two with some distance.
