Pioneer receiver run 4 ohm speakers?
It will work fine but cheap amps lose a lot of there power at 4 ohms. It will also cause a lot more heat which could shorten the lifespan of your reciever. Bass might be lean at high volumes it also may all work out just fine.
Dr. Dre Beats
There are a LOT of headphones that will be better in the $300 price range. Do yourself a BIG favor and check out head-fi.org, great people with great advice. Also www.headphone.com is a good place for information. The company is Headroom they sell...
Thiel 3.7 vs Wilson Sasha
Egrady,"Can the 3.7 resolve low level detail as well as the electrostatic like Wilson"In short yes. The 3.7s are one of the most resolving box speakers I have ever heard. But I have never heard a box speaker get more details in the mids than a goo...
Thiel 3.7 vs Wilson Sasha
Bvdiman,Thanks a lot for the detialed responce, it is exactly what I was looking for. Sounds like the Magico are pretty nice too. I can see why you thought the 3.7 were not organic. I find them very music dependant and hit or miss based on music c...
Thiel 3.7 vs Wilson Sasha
Actuary616 and Jtein:Congratulations on your new systems! I think you both did it right by making a short list and listening for yourself. Once your at this level in the game personal preference plays a big part. BvdimanYour comments are interesti...
Magnepan 1.7 or used Totem Forest
As others have commented used magnepans is a option if you just wanted to try them out. But be carful when you buy magnepans used. Delimitation of the "coil" from the mylar is a very real issue and petty common. As an engineer in the polymer field...
Have Maggie 1.6s, looking to switch it up.
I think your budget is too low to compete with the magnepans in a box speaker. Used I think you could get into a comparable speaker for $2000-3000. I would not consider Gallo or ZU conventional (never heard either). You might like some used Thiels ...
Magnepan 1.7 or used Totem Forest
Heard most of the totem line (back to back) and heard the 1.7s a few months later. I listened to Norah Jones on both systems. The Totems were feed by Cary tube amps (model slips my mind) and the 1.7 were off of Naim gear. I an not familiar with ei...
B&W 804s vs Usher Dance Mini-One
I would keep the B&Ws and save up for a big speaker upgrade. The Ushers will be different but not worth all the trouble IMO. You can get used Sophias for $6000, I have seen used dynaudio C2 go for as cheap as $5200....Then there are the big hi...
Thiel 3.7 vs Wilson Sasha
Pkoh, Thanks for the tip on the Naim. I have a dealer that carries them and I have heard them on Magnepan 1.7 and they seemed pretty good. I might give them a go some time. Now back on topic. Pkoh, I would like more detail on how the bass compared...
Thiel 3.7 vs Wilson Sasha
Actuary,Yeah I like Thiels pretty well. I have never heard Thiels with Bryston amps. I have been rolling amps on my CS2.4 for a little while now. I think I am going to stop with Wyred 4 Sounds. Like the Thiels I find it very hard to find a reason ...
Thiel 3.7 vs Wilson Sasha
Great post!!! These are two of my favorite brands and I like to see them compared but I do not see comparisons much because of the price difference. It is nice to see a post like this. You may take some flack because the systems were not the same....
Help me replace my b&w 802d's
How far do you sit from your speakers? Not sure a sub and monitors will solve the diver integraton issues. It might actually make it worse. Or is the height the issue? See if your dealer will let you take the new 805D home and see what you think. T...
B&W 804S vs. Def Tech ST
Jaxwired is 100% correct. 804s win hands down.
Questions about room size and speaker choice
No, 3 feet off the front wall is plenty and the magic number where improvements happen. I thought you had them a good bit closer. I have found that distance from the speakers is important for driver integration which translates to better imaging a...
