Avalon Acoustics vs Wilson Audio
Kazmann,I can understand why Thiel is not for everyone. It sounds like you like a speaker with some body. My guess is you will like the Wilsons much better than the Avalons. Can you comment on the Sophia 3 (or Sasha) compared to the new 802Diamond?
Avalon Acoustics vs Wilson Audio
Kaxmann, The following comments are not a personal attackThere is nothing fast about the 802D... There is substantial overhang in the bass. It could be delayed port noise but they are slow. Look at the measurements in the link I provided below. Yo...
Thiel CS 3.7 vs Tidal Piano Cera
This thread is about worthless. At this point there are 23 post and not a single comparison. Blanket a statement that one item is way better than another with no context or detail is worthless. Larry is one of the only ones in this thread still ta...
804Ds and bass performance
Glad to hear you like them. I love the way they look, one of the best looking speakers out there. For what it is worth I have always liked mac gear. I did however find the bass was best with a Wyred4Sound ST500 vs the mac 252. I took my ST500 to t...
RevelStudio2 really special or I need to hear more
To add to what Egrady said, the Studio 2 is down about 5db at 20hz but most average sized rooms add 3-5db from 20-40hz. I would expect the Studios to be flat at 20hz and spiked at 60-80hz in most rooms. If you target the 80hz hump with bass traps ...
Happy with USB DAC? Some rambling included..
I think USB is a real dog. To say it is medeocure is kind. I use an all digital sysem based off a mac mini and have used several "good" USB DACs. In my system i have both the USB and toslink hooked up (HDR-DAC1) and can change a computer setting t...
B&W 603s gone; I'm lost down the rabbit hole
I have an old Marantz reciever from 1976 (40 watt) that I messed around with on my 703s. It sounded pretty good to my ears but I only listen at about 75-80db. I would not be too quick to replace your amp, just try it and see. Ignorance is bliss an...
B&W 603s gone; I'm lost down the rabbit hole
The small totems never did much for me. I always felt PSB has better speakers for the same money. I would look into used PSB speakers.... They would be a very noticable upgrade from your B&Ws. I used B&W 703 for a few years in college and ...
Magico Q5
Wait these things already went up in price, really? What they were out 4 months before they went up. Hi-end is going to price itself into extinction.I read the article when it came out but did not feel it was worth posting. Every speaker he review...
Thiel 2.3 vs 2.4
Well this is a pretty old thread that I have read before. I actually like hearing negative comments about speakers. I get pretty tired of hearing how great speakers are... I find most are only ok and some are down right bad.I have never heard the ...
Best rock/jazz speaker under $10k used
Sophia 2 are pretty cheap used. They have good vocals and strong bass. The drivers lack ultimate integration and resolution. But at their current used prices they are a very good deal. The big dynamics will be good for rock music.
Sonus Faber Liutos
I have not heard them but Hi Fi+ reviewed them. Below is a link where you can download the PDF (toward the bottom).http://www.absolutesounds.com/index.php?page=17
Headphones--The Grado sound in a closed design?
"What is the benefit of open headphones?"It is like having a larger room for your speakers. The mids are more open and the bass is more controlled (less lumpy), but closed headphones have come a long way and there are a growing number of closed he...
Headphones--The Grado sound in a closed design?
I have owned so many headphones I lost track. Grado are very nice and I used Grado RS-1 for a long time. Grados have their own sound and you will not find anything like them. There are good closed heaphones but I really can't think of one under $4...
YG Acoustics or Dynaudio
"Dynaudio is more like a fairy tale :)"lol, Funniest statement I have read in the long time....
