Experimenting with Speaker Room Placement
As far as rugs go, there are numerous decorative plush throw rugs of many different sizes available at Home Depot or Lowes or at a Carpet retailer. As for speakers, I keep reading and hearing good things about the Larsen speakers in situations like...
Experimenting with Speaker Room Placement
I have a room almost the same size as the OP's and have experienced very similar problems in set up. I too now have my speakers on the long wall. I started with them on the short wall and after almost wearing out the carpet from moving them around...
Aleph 4, or else? (good general purpose class A amp)
If possible, audition a Valvet E2 amp. A dealer brought one over to my house and after the audition I placed an order. In my system to my ears it bettered my Coincident Frankenstein 300B amps in virtually every area. A real winner.
where best to spend $2-3000 upgrade dollars in my system
Now that you have listed the room size, I can better understand your statement concerning low listening levels. The Cornwalls would tend to dominate a space of that size and would be limited in their ability to perform at their best, not having su...
6L6 vs EL34
In this hobby I am always amazed at the variety of results obtained from the same product(s) by different users. If you do change your amp, please post your impressions. Also, could you identify the amp being used?
where best to spend $2-3000 upgrade dollars in my system
Having owned Cornwalls twice in my audio journey, I agree that they like to be played at more realistic (live) levels, where they really come to life.So many variables to take into account before any change. For instance, How large is your room? H...

Can you identify that which you are unsatisfied with? If so please let us know so that the collective can better guide you in your quest. You have what appears to be a decent system. There are many ways to throw money at an audio system. Many are m...
Music reference/ audio research / vpi
Normally it's best to put the horse before the wagon. I.E. Speakers first.Axpona is coming up, a good source to hear many products.Nearby dealers or Audio clubs is another source for hearing potential products.Sometimes a manufacturer can put you ...
6L6 vs EL34
Generally speaking, in the amps that I have heard, the 6l6's are cleaner and more accurate. Whereas the El34's are warmer and richer. YMMV.
An experiment worked; how to proceed?
One of the first things to do is to address the first reflection points on the walls. Usually absorbing type panels are used. I.E. Fiberglass, foam or hanging throw rugs etc. After that, perhaps trying a more "plush" and larger carpet in place of y...
How about female RCA suggestions.
When soldering the center terminal did you have a male RCA inserted into the jack?By so doing it acts as a centering guide and also as a heat sink.If the center pin is overheated it can become off centered and can cause erratic connection problems.
Low-heat-output amp for Devore O/96
Valvet E2 is quite a stunning amp. Runs medium warm. 10Audio just did a review on it.From the first notes, I knew it was a keeper. Toes were tapping and a big smile on my face.Vs my 300B amps it has a better lower end foundation and great rhythmic...
Dc for power supply
An interesting question. I personally don't think that there would be any sonic difference in batteries, especially when using them for just the filaments. However stranger things are known to occur in this hobby. The use of batteries keep popping...
Tekton Double Impacts
Charles1dad, I have the original model also, not the MK11. So mine is the same as yours. I do have the V-Cap mod as per (Salvatore)sp? When I first fired up the speakers they sounded very dis-jointed. Like two different speakers in one box competi...
Tekton Double Impacts
Received my DI's last week. Hooked them up and was not impressed. However, I just plopped them down where my previous stand mount speakers were. Thought I made a big mistake but decided to work with them to see what I could coax out of them.My pre...
