Hum problem - help
If all of what Bojack suggests above fails, I believe I'd be scrutinizing the crossover in the B&W's...or the wiring to them.
Caps going out?? Whats this noise...
I can only think to suggest looking inside your 200 to see if maybe there are any hairline fractures anywhere with the circuit boards possibly. Or a cracked solder joint. Or it could well be a part is out of spec, but it may be a resistor or diode...
OPPO BLU RAY PLAYERS
I'll most likely switch to a computer source and use my 103 as a DAC, with either its USB or HDMI input. But, like Doggiehowser says, I'm not counting bluray out, for the time being (more than a hundred music titles to be released by Sony this fal...
Finding the elusive
Or amp, if that's the case...
Finding the elusive
Good to hear, B_limo! It's always good when you finally hit that magic combination. Congrats and cheers!Regards, JohnBTW, what were the new speakers?
audiphile power cords
They do make a difference - or at least they can - but, only sometimes or not. But, as near as I understand it, one of the biggest stumbling blocks for PC designers is proper geometry vs gauge vs length. The big goal being to lower impedance. Nois...
what amp under a grand?
It may not be your amp, but if it is, then ditto on the McCormack. I'd vote for the 125. The "McCormack sound" may not have the very last word in HF extension or air, but their amps are very highly regarded in every other respect. 125 should be sl...

Hi Pete. I just now revisited this thread after having first posted about the Mt Rainiers. Was quite surprised to see the flap between you and Alex...(!) I know, I know, we all want to keep this thread on track - I apologize in advance for bringin...
DACS that don't do DSD - obsolete?
Personally I'm not totally sold on DSD on a sound-quality basis alone. DSD has an inherent rolloff above about 8khz that, while not all that prominent to most listeners, is still there. It's not as cleanly extended in the highs as, say, DVD-A, Blu...
Speakers First?
Buying speakers first IS, I think, the best way to go about it, but I might go even further and say that it's really the speaker/amp pairing that may be the most important...that is, it's not quite like buying a source, which can be thought of pre...
The sound of my new electrical service: Day 2
"Sometimes musicians just don't get it". I think that can sometimes be true. I have a young friend who's into everything Metal and is well on his way to being a helluva guitarist (he even practices with some flamenco), but he tends to think the mo...
The sound of my new electrical service: Day 1
I agree with waiting at least 2 or 3 weeks for things to settle. If you did not have your ground rod replaced, I'd give serious consideration to doing so. Ground rods corrode over time and if it has never been replaced your house may be effectivel...

Also try Wavetouch Audio's Mount Rainer monitors. List price is $3k, but I think you may still be able to get them at his special price this month for $800/pair. They, along with the Grand Tetons (similar WTA monitors) have been singled out for ha...
