Need suggestions on bookshelf speaker upgrades

Need suggestions on bookshelf speaker upgrades
Hi Pete. I just now revisited this thread after having first posted about the Mt Rainiers. Was quite surprised to see the flap between you and Alex...(!) I know, I know, we all want to keep this thread on track - I apologize in advance for bringin...
DACS that don't do DSD - obsolete?
Personally I'm not totally sold on DSD on a sound-quality basis alone. DSD has an inherent rolloff above about 8khz that, while not all that prominent to most listeners, is still there. It's not as cleanly extended in the highs as, say, DVD-A, Blu...
Speakers First?
Buying speakers first IS, I think, the best way to go about it, but I might go even further and say that it's really the speaker/amp pairing that may be the most important...that is, it's not quite like buying a source, which can be thought of pre...
The sound of my new electrical service: Day 2
"Sometimes musicians just don't get it". I think that can sometimes be true. I have a young friend who's into everything Metal and is well on his way to being a helluva guitarist (he even practices with some flamenco), but he tends to think the mo...
The sound of my new electrical service: Day 1
I agree with waiting at least 2 or 3 weeks for things to settle. If you did not have your ground rod replaced, I'd give serious consideration to doing so. Ground rods corrode over time and if it has never been replaced your house may be effectivel...

Also try Wavetouch Audio's Mount Rainer monitors. List price is $3k, but I think you may still be able to get them at his special price this month for $800/pair. They, along with the Grand Tetons (similar WTA monitors) have been singled out for ha...
Paco De Lucia
That's a tragic loss and the news comes as a bit of a shock. Was just listening to Friday Night earlier this week... Irreplaceable.
Vintage Cassettes: Direct Drive, 3 Heads: Sendust
Les, thanks, that does begin to jog my memory ;)
Vintage Cassettes: Direct Drive, 3 Heads: Sendust
Among the very best sounding cassette decks ever made were the briefly produced JVC "Super"-Digifine series (NOT "Digifine") 3-head models (I had the TD-711, the next one down from the top of the line). From my inquiries with some repair techs, th...
CD Player: Digital-in that passes to digital-out
Oops, looking again, I thought you meant passing the signal thru to the DAC. However, if you're looking for it pass thru to the spdif out, I believe I would still start with looking at the 851C. I would contact Cambridge and see what they say, if ...
CD Player: Digital-in that passes to digital-out
Cambridge Audio 851C. Go to Audio Advisor, look up the 851C and on that page click on the icon for a tutorial video. See also the 850C, the 851C's predecessor. You have your choice of formats of balanced digital input, coax, toslink (I think) and ...
Better when it rains?
The effectiveness of your home's ground is in part a function of basically having most, if not all, of the right chemical elements (some 80+ different ones) present in sufficient amounts in the soil where your ground rod has been driven. But, it's...
2 way isolation with power cords?
Not sure about the MIT's, but if you're looking for some, I know all the Alan Maher design (AMd) PC's do...Alan P Maher on facebook, you can send him a fb message to inquire. He doesn't delay on responding. Good luck.
Tweeter height...align with ears?
There is an old rule of thumb that is said to apply only to conventional dome or cone tweeter/midrange pairings and that is to put the tweeters just a little above ear height. However, the reason for that advice has little or nothing to do with th...
