Loudspeakers have we really made that much progress since the 1930s?
I tend to agree with those who are saying that things, overall, have tended to improve with time, better highs, better lows, for sure. But even so, I gotta say that the humble, successfully-well-thought-out, untreated-paper cone midrange is still....
Subwoofers.... one 10" or two 8"?
Hi Leotis, The links you posted above are interesting and look as though they'll be helpful to me (once I can get my DIY subs back online, anyway - modifying their cabinets and amp right now), Thank you!
Subwoofers.... one 10" or two 8"?
Hi larstusor,The 3dB-down point at 33 Hz on your Mirages give you some room to work with, so you might end up wanting to leave their signal unmodified and just "add" the sub(s) at a reduced output level, so to speak. Or you can think about crossin...

czarivey just may be what we'd call a "music snob"...s'cool, not uncommon at all, really. "...Superman was born a Superman and wakes up as a Superman. Same with a musician."  Juilliard graduates, for example, have included: Miles Davis, Itzhak Per...

A worthwhile notion, Erik. When I was coming along in the 70’s, my high school did not happen to offer a music program, but it was an exception, most schools did. I’m sure the internet, video games and social media have changed the focus of the ma...
What to do with bad recorded CDs
OP,I have a revealing, musical, thoroughly enjoyable, CD-based system that plainly doesn't have a problem with lesser CD's any more than with the exceptionally well made ones...by all means try some of the suggested solutions out on your system (p...
How long do high quality speakers "last"
The RMa's don't use foam surrounds, so I would investigate using a high quality rubber preservative on the butyl every 2 or 3 yrs or so to keep the butyl from drying out (micro cracking) and will help keep them pliable...there won't be any change ...
newbie DAC question
kremrik,"This is basically a paragraph telling readers how sucky his $100,000+ system sounded without the $6,000 power cord. It’s this kind of thing that I think throws noobs like myself off." Boy, you said it! I think things like that are enough ...
Remembering Phoebe Snow on Her Birthday July 17, 1950
Wonderful post....thank you so much. Have always enjoyed her works.
EVS modded Gustard X20 DAC
Thank you Bob, nice writeup! I, too, have been onto what Ric has been doing for several years and I also trust very much in his experience, his "ears" and recommendations...and, as I'm sure you already know, I'll add that he's also a great guy to ...

Is it possible for the center image to drift from lp to lp?
I had recently been having this same problem. Solution in my case was from none of the possible causes you mentioned. It came down for me to speaker placement alone. Due to a slightly lackluster overall sound and the same kinds of center imaging p...
