Interesting article on audiophiles and audiophilia
Entertaining article. Probly the single-most accurately descriptive one on the nature of audiophiles themselves I believe I've ever read. Thanks for sharing.
Weakest link
Thanks for the kind words @inna. Wow, Paco de Lucia is definitely one I would love to hear live!
Weakest link
Thanks for lettin' me rant above, Inna...not that I give anybody much choice. ;>)
Weakest link
OTOH, I once had a setup that had a very relaxed, breezy kind of sound. But, it was soo relaxed it lost a sense of purpose with bass lines. Changing amps, as it turned out, to a nice, clean, tight signature was just what the doctor ordered.
Weakest link
If you will let me add, Inna, to what I posted above. All in all, what I’m saying really, is that this likely a ’stage’ that everyone seems to get to with their system and is often not to be taken lightly if one wants to successfully navigate thro...
Weakest link
I think you’ve already nailed it. It can be virtually impossible to confirm what the actual weak link is until you’ve made (usually) at least Some sort of substitution. Sometimes even rudimentary substitutions can be rather illuminating on a given...

Dedicated Line Noise Filter?
If you feel sure this is a mains noise level issue and not some kind of equipment thing going on, then I would recommend Alan Maher Designs, despite that most audiophiles have little or no experience with them. I’ve been dealing with Alan since 20...
Building a stereo room and ran into some problems, help!
If I’m reading #4 correctly, stuffing any kind of blanket or such into the inside of an air vent as a longterm solution would be a big fat no-no. There will be far too much moisture buildup inside the vent system during normal use and it won’t be ...
Upgrading amplifiera.
Some folks are forced to upgrade (or at least get something different) when they buy themselves those shiny new speakers! Upgrading amps goes on all the time in general, maybe too much you could say. I used to think in terms of upgrading, but afte...
Beatles Love..latest iteration
Best stage performance act I ever saw (saw it in Vegas in ’07). Haven’t seen it since so I can’t comment on what you might have seen. Was thoroughly engrossed and entertained. Many memorable moments...the disintegrating Bug blew me away. Was virtu...
The Slow Secret Death of the Guitar
While the article is interesting (and accurate) it really should not come as too much of a surprise to us, since the acknowledged guitar gods are only one facet of the overall of what we've really been in decline with and that is rock or pop music...
Fastest way to correct hifi system?
Good advice here.I'd say the slowest and most hassle filled is to take the time to do everything yourself...although conceivably it may hold out the most promise for the "...that one can be satisfied with longterm" part of the equation.Dealers do ...
Thiel Owners
Amen to that!
Thiel Owners
@Norbert, What I neglected to say above is that I think that your original point above really being about weak-sister sub/standmount systems having inherently more bass problems than they’re even worth is actually true and a perfectly valid one. B...
