Left/Right Orientation of Piano Recordings -- Any Preferences?
I suppose I’ve not really thought about it all that much before for some reason, although generally I do like piano arranged width-wise where you can get the sense of the length of the instrument usually, as long as that does not overwhelm the pre...
Who said “ flat freq response “ is the best?
@elizabeth ,  I think you are absolutely, and without any doubt in my mind, 1000% correct!!!Easier said than done sometimes maybe...but not impossible (if you don't confine yourself only to the most immediate possible causes and are persistent). A...
Who said “ flat freq response “ is the best?
"Flat" means a component or speaker is not likely to color the sound on its own. The problem is that there are many different components in the system...and then there’s the room itself...and your own hearing, your mood, etc.The problem is not so ...
What makes a speaker sound great at low volume?
One thing I'd say you likely Don't need (necessarily) are expensive, overdesigned drivers. Even ordinary paper cones are quite competent and capable of very nice combinations of musicality and detail/resolution. An exception in your case might be ...
Pro Amps - What have you tried?
I use Crown XTi-2 power amps (3) to power my system. Class AB, negative feedback, extra digital conversion step and all - but with all the power treatment I have on hand to throw at the whole system, they’re sounding better than great. What attrac...
Munich 2016 and 2017 from a Speaker Designer's point of view
A good read. More in-depth in some of the ways that count than about any "reporter" Thanks.
Two Type of sound and listener preference are there more?
@rwinner "The attempt to install the 'original recording' as the objective standard for judging a system is doomed to failure from the start because It begins with the false premise that there is one, unique objective sound associated with the rec...
Two Type of sound and listener preference are there more?
"To be clear, I fall into the audiophile camp that wants it ALL: realistic imaging, well-resolved detail, dynamics, balance, and I want it in a package that is pleasing to hear. I guess I'd have to define "musical" as just that: pleasant to list...

Maybe it's Not so much different ideas of what systems should sound like, but different ideas of what music should sound like. It's live music or bust, for me, but evidently many folks just don't require any such thing.

Sounds like the Doctor is more interested in drumming up business by oversimplifying the exercise of system building by creating the impression that systems are best designed by only targeting original sound expectations, and that anything falling...
Two Type of sound and listener preference are there more?
I’m definitely now (finally) in the real is good camp, but that may be merely because I’ve now been after it for 45+ yrs and have managed to cough up enough cash over time for what it was I was ultimately shooting for. IOW, I suspect most folks re...
odd music times pieces
Oh gawd, if you don't know who Don Ellis is....(just shakin' my head is all...)   ;)
What is your listening chair?
@roberjerman, is that tube or ss?
Thinking out of the box here. It might make some defensive
@elizabeth , For connectivity's sake I just soldered a "pigtail", a short length of the same wire of about 4 or 5 inches out of the back of my amp. This is what allows me to change things around with speaker wire. The actual connection is made wit...

Also, the difference in 10 ga and 12 ga wiring at 8ft lengths are likely audibly negligible, even in the deep bass...at rather longer lengths, then yes, you might expect more bass from the 10 ga.
