Open Baffle. Why are they mostly limited to DIY? I love OB, but I did find most things, like the Emerald Physics line for example, to be way too expensive and relatively not-so-well implemented for my tastes. So I eventually moved into DIY. I'm currently still building a pair based on Danny Ritc...
Musical Foot in Mouth What happens when you drop a piano down a mine shaft also describes the musical performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto #2 when performed by Ween.
Lowering the noise floor Thanks for the explanation."...eliminating ANY type of Noise or Distortion would be a good thing, right?" Most certainly sir.
Lowering the noise floor I've never actually tried that, but it may be 'somewhat' worthwhile to at least look at I think. There is less noise with batteries, but from what I've gathered it never totally goes away. But, you could expect rather good results with all except ...
Lowering the noise floor I think I understand what you’re saying with the magnetic type noise (mu metal, yes??) and also the minimized player. It’s the "...all RFI/EMI type produced or carried by the house AC, cables, fuses, power cords..." part that’s confusing me...not ...
Lowering the noise floor If it Is a battery powered headphone setup we’re talking about, then except for cost and audio nervosa, I’d say that you have not **completely** (to use your word) avoided all the noise issues. There is the noise from the components themselves at ...
Lowering the noise floor What, you mean you've avoided all that by going cryo?? Not sure I get the drift here...forgive me if I'm a little slow today...battery powered headphone set up??
Lowering the noise floor Ok then, let's talk specs. Alan Maher Designs:"AQUA EMI Wrap Specifications:Filter Frequency: 0Hz to 200+ GHz (max frequency of our test equipment)Noise Suppression: 95% to 98% based on 120/240v incoming electrical serviceNoise Floor Reduction: Gr...
Lowering the noise floor I have spent more than $10k on treating both my home and system to reduce all types of contributors to the "noise floor": shot noise, EMF/RFI (from land, sea or air), EMR, grounding issues and so on (all Alan Maher Designs). My system only cost me...
Has anyone made the jump to $uper High end and were disappointed? @bo1972 "The thing what I hope people will learn and understand is that trial en error does not garantee you anything."It's ok, bo...it doesn't guarantee anything. I think that's why they call it trial and error. Just sayin'
Has anyone made the jump to $uper High end and were disappointed? @gdhal "While I'll agree that @geoffkait post is more accurate and thought out than many of his other posts, to some extent it is not entirely correct because there is yet a third (that I can think of, perhaps there are more) high-ends for audio. ...
Equalizers- love them or hate them and why? I’ve been using EQ in one form or another for more than 40 yrs. If your system is not nearly yet to where you’d like it to be, then EQ is...well, if not a "swiss army knife" tool, then at least a very flexible and useful "band-aide" that will amel...
Has anyone made the jump to $uper High end and were disappointed? @geoffkait "There are two high ends for audio. One is in the solid grip of upgraditis, that one tends to be solidly Anti Tweak, believing that the secret to sound quality is the electronic circuit, expensive parts and “solid engineering” - in qu...
Happy Thanksgiving Well said. Many thanks and many returns.
Best way to decrease the internal volume of a sealed speaker? If you use Flex Seal, it may have petroleum distillates in it, as the more expensive rubber sprays at Wally World (10-12 bucks) will have. However, the cheaper stuff (2-4 bucks) doesn't have pd's. Pd's are rather corrosive to electronic circuitry.... |
