Skeptic or just plain hard headed
I think you may find the ’on-a-while-off-a-while’ advice that crops up infrequently seems to have more to do with some silver designs than maybe anything else. I had some MAC IC’s that were like that and, if I recall, if I didn’t play them at all ...

@barnettk, actually I’m a fairly good audiophile, I just never quite learned to read...

Oh, I see I missed the part where you kept them, my bad. Good for you then, in that case!

No disrespect, but you blew it. You had your chance to discover for yourself what the truth about break in might be right in front of you and you let it go. You could've kept them and in the end you might have been telling Us whether or not break ...
Brass Queen
A trip! Would love to see that on disc (prolly never happen), but thanks.
Getting close to giving up on CD's
If you decide to bail on it, please send all your CD's to me!
I like my system flat, no tone controls, no eq..........what is your preference, and why.
I’m pretty much a big believer in (good quality) EQ. I now use digital, parametric EQ. The problem with it has always been the noise factor...push too much in the upper mids and you get hash, too much in the midbass or lower mids and you get mud o...
New to audiophile and need HELP.
@ bacchus1234, You can find great sound for $2k, but you will need to do some sleuthing or you will need to find someone who already has done that kind of work at this end of the market for you. Go on youtube and subscribe to a guy by the name of ...
Looking for a decent CD Recorder
The best one I found for the money was the TASCAM SS-CDR200. If you look at the **recording** specs (not playback) the 200 is much better than the cheaper 900 series. Off by only less than 1 dB from Redbook spec. Analog or digital inputs. Can reco...
‘modern’, ‘mainstream’ speakers—too many models converging towards too similar a sound
@twoleftears; Great post and excellent thread! Coming a little late to the thread, but not at all to your observation. I should’ve posted this myself, it has been bugging me too. Yup, lifestyle engineering at its finest alright. Lately I was in Ch...
Tube / SS amp that handles 4ohm loads well and delivers lively texture / palpability
I'm saying that I think that adding bass tautness to a 'drum effect' kind of system is a negative to the overall sound, whereas adding it to a very transparent bass setup is actually a positive.

I tend to agree that Ralph's post is a good point, but doesn't that sorta more come down to a speaker thing (in most systems, anyway)?? Boxed speakers in particular...you know, that whole distinction or parting of ways between head thumpin', gut-k...
Beware of new material claims - the case of graphene
Worth being aware of, thanks.
Why should we think of "what microphones heard " as a standard
@inna I don’t want to hijack your thread really, but I honestly think you may be looking at the problem the wrong way.Although I agree with bdp24’s post above, And that we, as you say, we only need good enough ears, I don’t think of this as a mic ...
