Streamed music sounds awful in my system and I don't know why ....
a few points.  While i agree that the problems re likely with WMP and the PC, i want to re-iterate where the problems likely lie. Not with the simple fact that you are using a PC -- but with two things:   1. The configuration settings, some of w...
Streamed music sounds awful in my system and I don't know why ....
So you didn’t tell us the streaming source, streaming format, or player settings. You didn’t mention what you’ve done to isolate ground and noise. Kinda like asking about your vinyl playback setup and saying "33 1/ rpm"   I'd be very wary about...
Don’t over power condition!
agree with larryi. What measurements did you take. Did you watch the line voltage at the output of your conditioning mess long term. Something’s wrong.   Example: this is unlikely the real issue, just an example of how things can go wrong. Three...
Analogue v. Digital...again (Washington Post)
So, let me get this straight. We will compare analog vs digital artifacts by recording both as digital, compressing eh living crap out of it, and playing it back on a computer. The only possible thing that this could prove is that the digital rep...

i will partially disagree that bi-amping is a WOT without a crossover before the amps.  Most midranges and tweeters require modest power, but that's where all the delicacy resides.  Its much harder to reproduce a ~20,000 Hz complex wave than a ~20...

Vertical bi-amping huh. Ok, ok it can be called whatever you want. You can call it a buffalo.  but its just a regular stereo amp in two mono boxes.  So there is no technical difference from normal amps.  If you use the two channels in parallel .....
Need 25 foot interconnects
first, balance to an adapter means..... unbalanced. Total waste of time, effort and money draw it out for yourself and see. Second. Your plan is fundamentally good. Bigger differences in speaker cable due to the currents involved. Want an explana...

Also, not only do you defeat the purpose of running the speaker bi- if you don’t remove them, you can damage the speakers. reply: Only if you cross wire them. No. You can damage them even if the polarity is correct. Two amps will have slightl...
Preamps can color sound considerably. Surprising?
The only surprise, to me, is that anyone would possibly think a component would NOT color/distort the sound. If perfection was so easy, why would we need to spend more than $200 on an integrated amp? Are designers "playing with the sound"? Hmm. I...
Comparing external DAC to CD player DAC
good gracious - the Rotel 855 was very good at the time and price, but was far from truly audiophile.  I had one - at the price loved it.  (actually i still have it -- somewhere) But i can move into a totally different world with a regular nothing...
Comparing external DAC to CD player DAC
totally disagree with "old mac is the problem". I wont get into either the theory nor my extensive step by step subjective testing - but done right it can be as good as anything. But there are many pitfalls to ANY computer based streamer. Note i h...
Comparing external DAC to CD player DAC
i’d like to hear what the DAC is, and what apps you are using on the Apple unit, whether you are going bitperfect, and how you are isolating your USB from the computer’s noise. If for example, you use the computer’s digital volume control you can ...
Computer updated and now Roon is blocked
for the future, make n explicit backup of your Roon settings.  All new installs ought to be fully "clean". Then import the settings form the backup to that clean version. You kinda neglected that important fact!    Glad itsworking.
Anyone using 2 preamps in their rig?
I will venture that multiple speakers suggests multiple systems suggests multiple preamps. Now maybe you want different prints for different recording methodologies I’ll say that I supposed to different music because like rock tends to be nasty an...
Computer updated and now Roon is blocked
Roon is very low stress re: graphics. I run it on all sorta of crappy systems. Theer ar eno audio drivers per se.  Its digital out on USB or ethernet. There are USB audio profiles, but those are now part of Win10
