Status = Dorian Acquires Reference Recordings
It's good to know that Professor Johnson won't have to rely on Spectral as his whole source of income...that is, if he's still the master at RR. This is very good news.
Equipment that has made you 'stop' looking?
Verity Parsifals. I've listened to a LOT of speakers over the past decade and, for the money, these are the ticket. Don't know that I'll ever be that tempted to change them out, knowing that I would probably have to spend twice as much to realize ...
Damping Top of CDP
You don't mention whether the cdp is isolated. Ultimately, that will provide a greater improvement than beanbags, linoleum tile or pucks on top. There are plenty of threads on Agon dealing with the various platforms, blocks, cones or other devices...
Linn Unidisk or Musical Fidelity kW SACD or ???
FWIW, I auditioned the Classe SACD 2, the Linn 1.1, the Ayre C5xe, Esoteric X-01 (and Dv-50), as well as a couple of other front runners...for the money the Ayre was far and away the most impressive. All cdp's were run balanced through my BAT elec...
Anyone run CDP direct to BAT amps???
While researching (and saving) for an amp upgrade, I am running my AA Capitole II direct to my VK-200. The sound is, as Jfrech notes above, wonderful. The Capitole's tubed output marries well to solid state, but I'll audition tubed amps/pre-amps a...
Which companies also offer good service??
The guys at BAT are absolutely first-class. Verity has also always been responsive and spot-on with answers to my questions; and Grant Samuelson of Shunyata is a straight shooter.
CES and AYRE
Drubin, Steve Silberman at Ayre will be glad to answer your query re the external digital input or alternatives.
CES and AYRE
I auditioned the C5xe in my system when it first became available and I was mightily impressed as well. Listened to both CD and SACD and really enjoyed both formats. CD playback provided a wide soundstage with clear highs and a well-defined bass. ...
What's the funniest song you ever heard?
Coffee_nudge, it seems to me it was about '66 or '67 when I first heard Tuli bawling in the bathroom. I think Kupferberg is still alive - he must be 80 by now. Zappa's "Who Goosed The Moose" was also special...Ah, Frank...Dr. Demento...Paraquat Ke...
What's the funniest song you ever heard?
BTW, wasn't it Tuli Kupferberg and the Fugs who did the original "Ballin' in the Bathroom"?

New jazz CD's of interest
Thanks for the heads-up, Scott. I'll be looking forward to hearing Ted Nash's latest effort.

What is the MOST audiophile friendly city ???
I'm with Mike on this. LA and NY, and other cities, offer a wealth of dealerships in some very upscale venues but the Puget Sound region offers almost as much (and the drives to those dealers are generally more enjoyable than a commute into LA or ...
Digital Connundrum - Levinson? Audio Aero?
Congrats and enjoy. I'll look forward to comparing notes.
