Could this be a Major Breakthough ?
The main benefit from water injection is to cool the intact charge *(especially on turbo-charged engines), thus allowing for more air mass for the same volume(denser charge) therefore the possibility of adding more fuel for an added kick. There is...
An Audiophile Goal
Bob, to determine the 'correct' volume for each LP, as stated before, I have calibrated the playback system meters to indicate a peak level at around 90 db (a simple spl meter installed at the listening location serves as the basis)and then run th...
Bose 901...really
Eldartford, perhaps you are overloading the input to the pre-amp? can you increase the gain on your power amp so that you can reduce the signal necessary to drive the amp. Then the Bose equalizer need not output so much and you can reduce the outp...
Bose 901...really
Eldartford, I think that your results reflect (excuse the pun)more your room than the overall response of the Bose. In my secondary system where I use the Bose 901s, I did not find the 630 peak nor the severe rool-off in the highs. I did find, how...
An Audiophile Goal
Bob, I have marked every one of my LPs with the volume setting that is necessary to achieve 90 db on peaks. Thus, I use that volume setting for that LP before I sit to listen. Some recordings, naturally, sound better than others, usually due to th...
Cartridge polarity?
If you reversed just one side, then one side was out of phase wit the other, with exactly the effect that you witnessed. It is important that polarity be the same for both channels for good sound and image.Bob p.
Vinyl newbie - have a few questions
Victor, you might be surprised to discover that the 'Joy' you recommended in your mix does, indeed, contain surfactants and surface tension modifiers. Windex like products also contain ammonia and dyes which are not necessarily good for vinyl surf...
Best location setup of turntable
I don't understand the objection to the wall mount, but perhaps your wife might not object to suspending the turntable from the ceiling using thin picture wire. I use 4 such wires to suspend an MDF board (easily leveled, using turnbuckles on the w...
Best LP cleaner fluid for fingerprints
Audiofeil is correct in his declaration of IPA not being used as degreaser in industry. Much more popular are the chloorinated solvents, which I would not recommend for cleaning of vinyl, however. A very effective 'degreaser', however, is steam!Bo...
Quadraphonic L P played with a 2 chan. cart.
Eldarford, I believe the quad LP system, which uses a FM signal, to which you refer, was the JVC CD-4. It was arguably better than the SQ & QS systems, but at least, as you said, it improved the high frequency tracking of cartridges to this day.
Quadraphonic L P played with a 2 chan. cart.
I still use a Lafayette SQ quadrafonic decoder for the few QS records that I have. I also use it for a way to 'simulate' rear channel information for ambiance effect. There has been no damage done to the original SQ 4-ch recordings by using an 'or...
Best Sealed/Full-Sized/Balanced Headphones for iPo
Listening to an iPod via quality phones, isn't that some sort of oxymoron? Even with a quality headphone amp?
tube Watts vs solid state Watts
Neither. The point is that power (watts or HP)is equal to volts (potential or torque) X amps (current or rpm). The high torque engine produces the HP at lower rpm, thus, and this is debatable, at a more useable range.Amplifiers (tube or SS)can be ...
tube Watts vs solid state Watts
This discussion is similar to the high torque versus low torque engines producing the same horsepower discussion.HP is HP and IT is what determines the max speed that a car can go.There is the term, however, of 'usefull' power (HP), which could be...
Magnetization & Demagnetization any conclusions?
Interesting that we know that 'demagging does not add anything to an LP that would cause brightness', for example, but we don't know why it works and, again, speculate that the 'demagging' reduces stray magnetic fields on materials that can't poss...
