Tonearms with no anti-skate adjustment
Hard to answer the question. Play the records and you will hear. Theoretically speaking, this is not a good idea not to have it, I think.
Record cleaning and care
Nothing removes audible scratches or repairs groove damage, how much of that you will hear and to what extend will depend on your particular table/cartridge set up.Yes, quite a number use ultrasonic machines, some in combination with traditional v...
Step down transformers detrimental to SQ?
I heard some crazy Japanese audiophiles do double conversion, up and down, and claim it improves the sound. I should try it one day. But before that I should try to run my Nak deck on 220V - it has custom dual voltage transformer.
How much difference will a phono stage upgrade make?
Anyone compared directly Allnic 1201 or 1202 with the Manley and Sutherland phonos ? Yeah, comparing tube stages with solid state may create additional difficulties, can be just very different.I am asking because I have Acoustech designed by Suthe...
Step down transformers detrimental to SQ?
Yeah, just get acupwr and you should be fine. I heard good things about them, I would not save a few dollars on this device. As for sound quality..shouldn't make things better, I'd say. You will want a very good low gauge power cord for amp, anyway.
TT set up
Interesting thing while setting anti-skate was that I preferred slightly different settings for different records, so it took me some time to find the best overall. Records’ thickness differs, by the way, and setting VTA can also be fun, it was qu...
Need power conditioner advice. In reference to Furman/Tice/PS Audio/Richard Gray.
Not so fast regarding PS Audio PPP. I bought one used three years ago for I think $800 and it has been working fine while doing a good job, including for 120watt/ch quite high current integrated. But when the wall current is particularly bad the s...
TT set up
VTA and anti-skate are set by ear. I also set tracking force by ear but within the specified range.
Beware of the cable claiming long burn in period.
Yeah, their loss, but not really our gain.
What power cord do you like most on your amp ?
Problem solved. No, I didn't get another Purist Dominus, I almost accidentally got Purist Aquila Praesto Revision, not current Luminist Revision, power cord that was specifically designed for digital with superior shielding. No fluid or ferox or c...
Want to get into Analog
I do see Nottingham Interspace used from time to time for about $1500, rarely though. Not sure of the price for a new one, probably around $2.5k for table/arm. Usually, people keep their tables for a long time if they like them and only upgrade wh...
What are the weak points of Pass amps and pre-amps ?
Denon1, I remember that you got Gryphon Diablo. Yes, I would not expect Pass to match Gryphon in dynamics, resolution and instrument separation. And of course at this level cables and power cords are even more important that at lower levels.Big 3D...
Want to get into Analog
To the OP. Don't listen to them or yourself regarding cheap DD tables. They are junk and will give you stupid even if at times sort of exciting sound. If you want real thing extend your budget and get Nottingham Analogue Interspace table/arm. Add ...
Want to get into Analog
Larry, you are being totally inappropriate and I will explain. Most of these guys won't be able to tell whether it is record or cd playing, given similar level of equipment, unfamiliar music and analog mastering for cd. Even less probable with som...
Bryston 4B3 vs Mac MC462 vs Pass Labs X250.8, OR... GRYPHON Diablo 300?
I know virtually nothing about digital, I did hear something about Aurender and PS Audio streamers, something good, I just don't remember what exactly I heard. I mean heard from serious audiophiles. As far as turntables go, $12k for table/arm plus ...
