My ears are ready to retire!
First task is to choose speakers. The rest is easy.Least expensive set up that I can think of is Dynaudio active speakers, Burson Audio dac/preamp/headphone amp and Mac mini computer. And a few good cables.
LAMM M1.2 - Feedback - Advice - Please - anyone heard these?
Some really like Ypsilon/Lansche match. Stage III cabling. Different sound. Different from, say, Lamm/Kharma with Purist cabling or from D'Adostino/Wilson with Transparent cabling.
What makes speaker's sound big?
I'll mention another element. Right amp makes speakers sound good and big ! Give speakers 'the current' !
Luxman L-590AXII vs Pass Labs INT-60
Yes, Gryphon and D'Agustino and maybe Soulution as well. There is Diablo 300 here for $11k with phono stage. No one is buying. Sad.
Best cost no object tube phono
By the way, unlike Bill, with age I am more and more into the sound quality. I would hunt obscure and unreleased master tape dubs too, though, if I could. Maybe later. There were many concerts, including and beginning with famous musicians, that w...
Best cost no object tube phono
There is FM Acoustics phono stage for sale on Audiogon. Why don't someone get it and then report back ? It's not expensive. Would be interesting to compare to some tube phono stages. There is an opinion that whatever else you do, phono stage must a...
Looking for a new phono preamp
How are dynamics and bass with Icon Audio ? What model do you have ?
LP playback vs Reel tapes made from LP
Tape has a drive and flow and as such it might be overall preferable to the source. Objectively it shouldn't be, though, but we can't listen to fully objectively. I like tape sound and prefer it to everything else.
Looking for a new phono preamp
How do you like your D’Agostino ? Did you compare it to other integrateds or separates before getting it ?$2.5k new phono stage is tough. I don’t know what I would choose without trying out at least a dozen. I mean, receiving and shipping boxes fo...
Better XLR/RCA adapters
I think, $90 pair Cardas adapters would do just fine. Thank you everyone.
Better XLR/RCA adapters
I might be getting Otari or Studer reel to reel deck in the foreseeable future, they have balanced connectors and for a good reason. That I would not want to use with adapters. So if I see a balanced cable that I would want to use with the deck in...
Better XLR/RCA adapters
Of course, temporarily. When you buy used sometimes you have to decide quickly if you know what you are looking for. Some cables are very difficult to find, so even if I will need it in a year I will get it now if I see it.
Looking for a new phono preamp
Whatever you choose pay attention to impedance match between the phono stage and the preamp. Sutherland has high output impedance, I think, so it won't match well with many preamps.
Better XLR/RCA adapters
I was thinking, maybe my memory was playing tricks with me. Purist adapters might be $250 for a pair so $500 for the full set.
Better XLR/RCA adapters
I see. Thank you.mitch2, there are also Cardas adapters for $150 pair. Is there real difference ? Extra $120 is not a problem if it's worth it.
