New preamp or other suggestions? How good is the current in your house? Next thing I would do is try very different cables.Thiels and Brystons both have a tendency to sound bright, and you got both of them. Your source components are weak too.I assume that you are not ready for a...
Music Hall MMF 9 compared to ? Nottingham Horizon would be a much better choice. Can be found used if you wish to save a little and take a risk.
Replacing stock tonearm cable What are the other cables that you are going to use in your system? I am a big fan of Purist Audio cables.Top of the line Cardas may be good for some bright set-ups, but I don't like those cables at all. However, you never know what will happen in ...
acurus dia100mk2 or audiolab 8000LX I have Audiolab 8000LX. It drives my Michael Green Rev.80i speakers very well. The speakers are 89db,two driver design with 8" Vifa mid/bass and 1" silk tweeter.Considering that it usually costs $350 or so used, this is an outstanding value.Classica...
Need to clean some cds Leave them alone, let them look like shit.
Analog under 2k? $820 arm on $3700 table is not the same as $200 arm on $1700 table. If he does that he'll want to upgrade to Origin Silver arm very soon.If not, then he does not need $1700 table anyway.I still think that not much used Nottingham Spacedeck with Spac...
Best speakers for $500 or less New-the best B&W he is prepaired to pay for within the $500 limit; used-so many choices, probably hundreds of them. Steer clear from cheap Canadian speakers, not worth it.Your friend may also want to audition some Polk and Cambridge Sound Works...
stuck in quagmire of speakers, someone pull me out Try ProAc,Spendor,Dynaudio and Vienna Acoustics too.
Best Live Recording on LP Not rock and not quite jazz, but " Friday Night In San-Francisco" by John McLaughlin Paco De Lucia and Al Di Meola is a masterpiece of acoustic guitar music. The collaboration of these very different guitarists is unique. The trio originally include...
Analog under 2k? Let us not forget Nottingham tables, new and used. Twl, putting $200 arm on a $1700 table is close to nonsense unless the man is planning to upgrade soon.Much better than the other way around though.
Silver to Preamp & Copper to Amp? Purist Audio uses complex alloys.Maybe that's the answer.Great stuff anyway.
Shawn Lane R.I.P. He was a very good player.Let's just not compare him with John McLaughlin in any way.
goodbye to vinyl. . . . grr ------ longish rant The described analog set-up will outperform any digital. The man missed it,we shall pity him. As for the new music being unavailable on records-you always knew it,didn't you?
Is heavy vinyl worth it? Original German records are quite light but always sound great and almost as quiet as Japanese.Quality of the vinyl is most important.I don't buy reissues at all, so can't compare that.
Gryphon gets no press, but is great. First, what makes you think that Gryphon needs American market badly? They are doing very well without it.Second, they don't have an "entry-level" piece because in their minds $7000 Callisto 2100 is the entry-level,and I tend to agree.Third, with th... |
