Do NOS Mullard EL34 tubes last much longer than NOS SED (Svetlana) EL34 ? jetter, you are probably right in that I should try these Gold Lions reissues. In fact, Kevin of VAC told me that he no longer used any NOS output tubes in his own reference amps. This opinion has a lot of weight. He also said that in his power a...
Do NOS Mullard EL34 tubes last much longer than NOS SED (Svetlana) EL34 ? jetter, thank you. I am talking about Mullards XF1 from Tube Depot. They got used for $300 each too. So, you are not saying they would last significantly longer. I am almost certain that they would sound better than SEDs and that's my potential...
Reel to Reel Yeah, I think, all of us should have RTR deck. Cost is a problem for me at the moment, can't get Otari let alone Studer. But if you like tape, as I do, and have some funds then, sure, you got to give it a try. But fine tape machines appreciate goo...
Reel to Reel Not RTR but I use Panasonic AG-7350 SVHS for background music every day. Sounds quite good, problem is low speed. At least the tape is wide.
How Soon Do You Realize You Don't Like a Piece of Gear? Yeah, I would do at least 200 hours of burn-in but it probably wouldn't change your overall impression. Personally, I no longer even consider transistor equipment, well, except for tape decks.
Can you tell the difference between a $200 and a $200,000 guitar? Well, I agree with Frog, but that player..can't play a single note really. Clearly, as heard on youtube, $20k guitar is the best value. The best acoustic guitar that I ever heard live was played by great flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia. It was ...
Experiences With Costly Balanced XLR Interconnects Above $3,000 Because there is no need to follow those standards, and having to buy expensive cables is not a problem for most audiophiles.
What is meant exactly by the description 'more musical'? Musical means it sounds right. Isn't it obvious ?
Has buying and/or selling audio gear changed? As a seller, I don't accept F&F either. But I always kind of absorb paypal fees and shipping charges and insurance, I might just slightly increase the price I would agree to. Shipping before even depositing a check would be great in ideal wor...
Experiences With Costly Balanced XLR Interconnects Above $3,000 OP, I suggest you try every cable above $3k retail. That's the only way to be sure. But since I tried their entire line, I will mention Wywires cables. Yes, every step gave a serious improvement, the biggest one - the last step. But I am talking a...
Has buying and/or selling audio gear changed? Walk away from those who don't take 'normal' Paypal and don't fully insure. Price doesn't matter, no business period.
Help me spend $100,000 on a new system Gryphon also makes speakers, though they are less known than their electronics. Yeah, you meant Diablo 300. If possible, you might be interested in auditioning Kharma and Lansche speakers. They are different from Magico and Wilson. I think, thei...
Help me spend $100,000 on a new system I can tell why not. Because the man has a different idea. He invited us to participate in his idea, not to suggest other possible ways of money management.
Do people tire of audio forums? Yes, positive outweighs negative. This is a very nice and peaceful thread, so I won't mention any negatives, as perceived by me. Good to see many old-timers in one place.
Help me spend $100,000 on a new system Mike, Diablo 333 is a new Gryphon integrated. The previous Diablo 300's DAC and phono stage were both considered excellent. Gryphon is really worth auditioning, especially if you like clarity and power. This is a very solid and reputable brand. |
