how to a/b test turntables
It doesn't matter. If you hear the difference, you hear it, if not - not. If you do, you will just have to decide if it's worth extra money, if it's the case. The situation may become more complicated if you prefer each of them in different aspect...
What is Jazz?
Yeah. And it is not only about jazz, it is about art in general. Tony Scott, an excellent musician, was, I think, one of the first jazzmen who spent most of his time abroad. Miles Davis played Agharta/Pangaea concert in Japan, John McLaughlin move...
What is Jazz?
Now this is not American jazz, it is Indian. Starts at 3:25http://youtu.be/eBHIE__7E-8
What is Jazz?
What is not jazz? Classical, rock, country, techno, flamenco, Japanese traditional music etc. are not jazz. What remains could be called jazz. Perhaps any kind of music heavily based on improvisation can be called jazz. Is Indian music jazz too? W...
Sturdy earbuds under $100
Grado, $89 new, sound very good. Don't know about indestructability, but you can break anything if you really want to. Midrange is especially excellent, as always with Grado.
How are Hig-End Speakers Priced?
I wish not. If I were I could do many stupid things, one of them spending half a million dollars on stereo.
Dynavector XV-1S ---is it overkill for my system?
I think you are confused a little. The cartridge you have is more than enough, but your speakers, power amp, Cardas cable and possibly speaker cables scream to be upgraded. After it's done, upgrade step by step your entire front end and then you w...
digital vs vinyl thoughts
Just because a person works in the industry doesn't necessarily mean he can be any authority when it comes to sound quality. In fact, more orten than not it is the opposite. Good vinyl on well set-up table is very quiet. I don't want to hear this ...
What makes a tuntable sounds warmer?
Dump it and go back to Nottingham.
What makes a tuntable sounds warmer?
What did you replace your Nottingham with? And why?
Used cables $1k - SF Amati and Bel Canto RF1000??
Agreed. The fact that you need balanced cables both simplifies and complicates the matter. But speaker cables are going to cost you in any case. However, why don't you try first DiMarzio Super M-Path speaker cables? They are close in character to ...
Used cables $1k - SF Amati and Bel Canto RF1000??
That would be Purist Audio, of course, though $1k might not quite cut it. Some would say Jade Audio too, I guess.
Are audiophiles people of sound prejudice?
Not at all. When something sounds right eveyone with the hearing will agree. As for slight differences in preferances, sure, they exist.
How selective are you?
Youtube for me too. Haven't bought anything for quite some time though.
Benefits of brand synergy
I would match power amp, speaker cables and speakers first, and the rest "doesn't matter", in a manner of speaking. But if we are talking reference level components, let's say, Gryphon, Lamm, Rowland, I would certainly try all possible preamp/amp ...
