Any thoughts on a solid hickory platform under my tt
bdp24, how would you explain the fact that many like maple under their turntables? According to your point of view, this should not be the case. Anyway, this is a very old argument, mostly concerning how speakers should be made.

Oleschool, you are not thinking of tearing it off and trying it under your turntable?

That's why I mentioned rosewood as the next wood I would try after maple. Then cherry. Both are musical woods. Mahogany is another wood worth trying, would probably be too warm for my set-up. The place that you mentioned has purpleheart block for ...

Are audiophiles still out of their minds?
What a mindf**k all this has become. What if it is a real purpose of some participants here?

I would propose - the winner takes it all.
Cartridge Performance vs Humidity
My dynamic speakers react to the changes in humidity.  When it is too dry or too humid they just can't 'breath well' and tell me to stop with every note they manage to sing. Cartridge doesn't 'breath' but there is a movement there nonetheless, so ...

It appears that unlike cables audiophiles just don't experiment with this. It is kind of surprising because the difference may not be subtle, especially when comparing maple to exotic woods. Turntables are really sensitive things and minor changes...
What's going on with the audio market?
Weed is legal in Colorado and I never heard anyone pay attention to it in Wyoming, Alaska and parts of California.

I am not sure either. But I guess of the inexpensive woods it sounds better in most cases. Cherry, as an example, would probably cost more let alone Brazilian rosewood, cocobolo or African blackwood.Even Michael Green who is an advocate of resonan...
how do you handle your clean records?
Two fingers on the label. Be careful not to slide it out and drop on the floor if you use gravity technique. I just position my hand and take it out of the sleeve, no gravity assistance. Edge fingerprints is non-issue.

Hickory is of walnut family, I never tried it. If it does something wrong you will hear it. I use 3" maple under my Nottingham, works well. If I wanted to experiment, the first wood I would try would be rosewood, preferably Brazilian rosewood.
An Amplifier Change for my Wilson Sophia 2's?
Would it make sense to replace the tubes, assuming that the ones installed are no longer capable of peak performance? Just a thought. 100 tube watts should be enough for these speakers.
