Beyond Ayre Pass and Rowland
I see. I remember reading similar comments about Boulder.
Purchasing from Japan
I don't know if Accuphase dealers in Japan would sell anything to the US residents, but I do know that official Accuphase prices in Japan are probably 40% lower than here. I heard that some people actually traveled to Europe to get some expensive ...
Beyond Ayre Pass and Rowland
No-one mentioned Halcro and Boulder. I am not familiar with them. Where do they stand?
How many will listen to tape and vinyl in the next century?
Dragon is difficult and expensive to maintain, and it doesn't sound better than some others. I suggest 682ZX or ZX-9. The former is a little warmer, the latter has a little more resolution. I use 682ZX almost every day.
What is going on? No-one buys good stuff priced right.
Maybe we don't want because we can't. In any case, let's stay alive a little longer. Vladimir too.
Phono/preamp/amp chain. One of them tube the others SS. Which one?
Orpheus10, good choice. Yeah, VAC and Lamm - top level.

Do you know how grey market develops and what do you support by saving a few extra bucks?

Well, let's hope Vladimir Shushirin lives long. I believe, there will be a few places that will service pieces like Lamm and Rowland. If not, they only need service every ten years, and if this becomes impossible in ten years, that's all right. La...

I'll take original BMW M3 from 80s.

You people are killing me, I would have to get preamp and amp at the same time and deal with the phono later. Better start saving on lunches and other things. I will also consider VAC all tube integrated, I suspect that something like Rogue Pharao...
Is it extra gain or two matched cables or both that improve the sound ?
Just discovered that the Redgum integrated has a passive preamp. No wonder, I have enough transparency but not gain. So the deck acts as an active preamp. Cool, though not the best solution, of course.

I don't have much experience with various phono stages so others might want to explain in details what happens to the signal.

I am still in 20th century too and will remain there forever. Interesting how we try to bend time, subjectively.

Czarivey, you just, unintentionally I believe, called me an idiot, along with many others. I would buy those Lamms in an instant if I could. They last for decades and at least for now can be easily and inexpensively serviced by Lamm.  The Rowland ...
Loudspeakers have we really made that much progress since the 1930s?
Yeah, sometimes one must maintain a totally uncompromising position no matter what. Not good for a discussion, especially when the subject is complex and debatable.Very nice post, Tim.
