Golden age of vinyl recordings? Yeah. Never I don't know, but the way it has been going since those times probably not in the foreseeable future. Besides, tube equipment and tape decks are most likely to be extinct soon enough. Attitude is not as it used to be, things must radic...
Can you live with your current speaker until you die? Lansche/Ypsilon and Kharma/Lamm or Wavac are some of those great duos.As for me, I never think along the lines you suggested. Life is full of surprises.
How much to spend on phono preamp I would spend at least double on the phono stage. This is $1k cartridge with low output, you want quality phono that can bring out the best in it. Tonearm cable is very important too.
what country has the worst graders of "collector" rock records Speaking ebay, it is getting worse everywhere, in my experience. Canada in fact was pretty good. Brits always grade EX which means little and varies from VG to almost NM. Japanese started overgrading a few years ago, before that they tended to dow...
It is hard enough buying new speakers, let alone older speakers to use as an upgrade shkong78, what do you drive your Lansche with ?
Cartridge upgrade What if you want to upgrade phono stage too ? What would you like to improve ? This is debatable but I think that phono stage should be better than cartridge, and often, with the exception of vintage cartridges, this means at least double the price.
Bookshelf + sub vs. floorstanding Floorstanders should give you more coherent sound, theoretically. Personally, I don't ever even think about subs for a relatively small room. You will of course need good source and electronics too, along with cables and wall current. $14k is pret...
Power conditioner or outlet? I suggest you first plug everything in your power conditioner except power amp. Listen and then plug power amp in it as well. Listen again. Try various music, including very dynamic one, and move the volume control up and down. If you hear no diff...
Road trip to demo $10,000 speakers Mike, good luck.Just please don't audition speakers that you cannot afford. On the other hand, extra $1k might be worth it if you can manage.
Difference in sound using different carts when digitizing vinyl record? We can argue forever. But all three are important, plus isolation and plus tonearm cable.
Difference in sound using different carts when digitizing vinyl record? Great. We have two analog camps. They might seem uncompromising but are still much closer to each other than to a digital/whatever camp.Chakster, turntable more than touches the record, that’s the beginning of playback.
Difference in sound using different carts when digitizing vinyl record? Yes, table itself is the most important element, then arm, then cartridge. And the interaction between them all, of course.I have $4k table/arm and $500 MM cartridge - sounds very good. Why would you want to convert analog into digital ? In a sense...
Cleanest CD recording to test with Oregon - Beyond Words, Chesky Records is not bad. That acoustic bass is something.
Road trip to demo $10,000 speakers That's certainly a good idea.I would also add this for in the room listening - turn the volume up and down not too fast. Good system should essentially sound the same and coherent, its character should be unchanged. Then leave it at your preferred...
Road trip to demo $10,000 speakers I disagree with the OP, though of course understand him. When auditioning good speakers you want to hear everything they are capable of. $100k preamp/amp with $10k speakers is good, generally speaking. But if you want to insist on more balance in t... |
