Amps or Speakers which one to upgrade next
If you like the sound you have now but want to make it even better, most likely it is a much better amp and source that you want. But I would probably start with tube rolling and trying other cables. Rogue is a value brand, it is not high end.

I think, Alan of Harbeth is thinking in the same cardinal direction as Michael Green but doesn't go that far. Harbeths are liked by many.Panel speakers with not much of a cabinet is one thing and box speakers is another. It is not either/or, in my...
What makes tape sound better than vinyl ?
Kevin, I took a look at what's available on ebay right now. I can see that prices for good decks are going up. Of what I saw the closest to your price range that I would bother with is Nakamichi 582 for around $600 including shipping. The seller p...
Tchernov cables. Anyone knows anything about them?
I usually do it like this : brand new, 50 hours, 150 hours, 230-250 hours. Purist Neptune improved slightly after that too, Tchernov Classic also just a little after 230 until 250, then I just removed it for now to put the Reference.
What makes tape sound better than vinyl ?
Recording directly from phono stage to tape is better than using preamp out. Unless, of course, you can't do it because you use onboard phono stage. That's an additional advantage of having separate phono.I rarely listen to entire album and often ...
Michael Fremer's system
To begin with, he made that video and wanted us to see it, maybe wanted us to discuss it too, so we are discussing it.But where is Michael himself? Michael, why not all Ypsilon ? And what did you do to your Studer ? $30k for Tara speaker cables ? ...

" cool '" is an understatement - great !

You are welcome. If one day you do decide to get an open reel deck or a cassette player don’t do it before consulting with the Audiogon membership. There are very knowledgeable people here who use or used to use them. Tapeheads.com can be helpful ...
Michael Fremer's system
It is definitely for near field listening, almost like big headphones. And he certainly wanted his rig to be very sensitive to the smallest changes. He also had to pay for all that, and though he might've been able to afford better equipment he pr...
Tchernov cables. Anyone knows anything about them?
CEC player, this must've been years ago. This is a little premature and just my speculation, but I think Peter Tchernov wants to prove that the idea of components dependent cabling is completely wrong. 55 hours on the Reference and counting. Unfort...

Design is one thing but I am impressed by how much sound you can get out of inexpensive speakers with good drivers with increasingly higher level electronics and cables, even leaving a decent but modest source untouched.

Not at all. But I am mostly interested in very high level equipment. I would also have no problem driving my $3k or so speakers with $16k Gryphon Diablo 300 or $25k Ypsilon Phaethon integrateds. And I do like Lansche speakers, whatever their desig...

The biggest challenge with this approach, as I can see it, is that they can't take too much power and get overwhelmed. Michael himself acknowledges this. So, if I listened to mostly orchestral and choral music, and hard rock, I would want something...

In addition, it’s very much speakers/room unit. Do you want to eliminate room ’coloration’ too ? Real instruments also have coloration, not only color. How about eliminating that as well ? You will get ’perfect sound forever’ that I personally won...

This kind of argument has been going on forever.
