I don't get it...Exile on main Street-Blue
Until recently, I spent my life thinking they were saying "She's A honky tonk woman" instead of "All the honky tonk women".  And up until quite recently I thought there were lyrics about Maxwell Madison, not Maxwell Edison, who was majoring in ...
Is positive reinforcement why things are sounding better?
Just curious if positive reinforcement experiences have occurred for others, and how can you really tell? Well, just thae fact that you are questioning it makes me think that it is probably not confirmation bias.
Do I need a phono preamp?
In retrospect, I think that I would have been better to have put all that money into the digital side of my system, Thanks, @vonhelmholtz  , seriously.  Over the years ll my money actualld did go to digital and sometimes I am still thinking I s...
Tubes Recommendation for McIntosh Preamp
I sort of remember a thread up not all that long ago by someone bitching about the quality of the stock JJ (I think they were 12 ax7s) tubes in his Mac (I cannot remember if it was an amp or a pre).  That was making me think that Mac was putting J...
Going Tubing
OP, about 30 years ago when I started my trek down the road to 'better end' audio, my intent was to combine HT with 2 channel stereo.  Therefore I went with a ss digital HT pre in front of (for the left & right front speakers) Cary's entry lev...
Going Tubing
I am actually surprised almost everyone is talking hardware. I have found the tubes selected have a SIGNIFICANT impact on sound. Sure, but OP probably needs the gear to put the tubes into before ge goes shopping for different tubes.
Should Amps be plugged into a power conditioner?
The main reason I don't think amps should ever be plugged into a power conditioner is that I enjoy having them repaired after lightning strikes. @erik_squires  , are you making a case for surge protection or for power conditioners?
Seek advice on forums but always listen to your own ears!
Unfortunately it can be hard to figure out what is good advice and what's not. That's a +1!  Someone asks a question and five people (or there abouts) answer one way, and then another five (or so) answer the exact opposite.
Loud pop/screech when powering on amp
if it is a blown cap, why would the amp still play and sound fine? Sorry, OP; I don't know enough about electrical theory and function to answer that--I only know how to change parts assuming I can identify the correct ones. I will say that I ...
Starting a second system, need efficient speaker suggestions.
somebody got them for $1,550. the others are in better condition, and is the warranty transferrable? @elliottbnewcombjr  , yes, I was watching as the final bidding went down.  I went to stereophile on line to compare the Nautilus to the earlie...
Loud pop/screech when powering on amp
Let caps drain for a few minutes after you unplug the amp but before you open it. Actually, what the tech from Cary Audio told me many moons ago was that the caps would discharge faster if you left it plugged in (for a while) after you turned i...

Why is Sgt. Pepper rated ahead of Abbey Road? I never understood it. Check with Maxwell Edison on that.

I’d love to hear a Taylor Swift covering Joni Mitchell album! Those two bimbos rock! You know, as much as they can for being women... . . . come to think of it, I do have the Diana Krall Live In Paris SACD with a cover of "A Case Of You" that...

. . . for more on the triode versus ultralinear subject, I did a search on this site (using that as a search engine). The results were like every other audio subject/debate here: no 100% consensus. As I typed previously, it’s easy to go back &...
