life span/failure rate of filter capacitors?
@audioman58  caps get dried out as they age . and does that statement apply to caps in units that have sat unused for a number of years?  My amp didn't see much (if any) use from '08 through '10. and in '10 I officially unplugged it and it was...
Soundstage drastically worsened when I replaced a solid state AV amp with tubes.
@erik_squires  it would be interesting to see what would happen if OP had access to and played that track from that test CD.

Eric has provided good advice. Plus you may also begin to hear fluctuations in the music with power capacitors. If you are in the NYC area I can take a look at your unit. On Parts Connexion look for Nichicon Super Through parts. You can go up in ...

What’s the Audio equivalent?  Someone going ballistic when a fly lands on their $100K power amp? I am not sure there is an audio equivalent.  Maybe if you were playing something too loud that the neighbors didn't like and they waited for you ...

Gotcha, @erik_squires  , I have never purposely or accidentally done that.  The only experience I have is with one of those test CDs by Rodger Skoff & Doug Sax where (I think it's) Rodger who says, "IN PHASE, my voice should be tightly focused...

Thanks, @sns  , I would like this amp to last longer than I do, if that is possible. I just got done looking on partsconnexion, & this may not be as easy as I was thinking it would be (finding one with the specs I want).  I'll do a search on ...

@erik_squires  , now I understand what you were saying. Out of phase, right? But with mismatched polarity, I would think that there should have been no concrete imaging between his speakers?

@knotscott  , I must have missed that game.  Were the refs throwing any flags for the Tackling-Tom-Brady penalty?

Thanks for the reply, @sns , I remember (and miss) the Dennis Had days. There used to be a wonderful individual (Kirk Owens) in tech support who was quite patient and thorough and walked me through about every problem or upgrade I ever had with on...

Back in the ’90s betting on pro football was a hobby of mine, so I used to watch a lot of foot ball in those days.. I remember one game, it was San Diego @ The NY Giants, (Kent Graham was the QB for The Giants at the time) and the Giants gave up a...

Thanks all.  @ditusa , @arcticdeth  , this is the thread that got me thinking about the subject   and after reading this thread, and a couple of quite recent threads related to the SLP-05, I don't think I want to send anything back to Car...

All tubes do is add harmonic distortion (the so called warm sound), so I'm not surprised it doesn't sound as good. @pedroeb  , I've never heard that tube amps have a reputation for shrinking the sound stage.
Does a brand new electrical circuit for audio gear benefit from burn in/break in time?
they do not reseat all connections, power and signal I will certainly give that a try, @ieales  .
Microphonic from Vacuum Tubes?
For whatever reason, it hasn't happened since I started this thread.   So I just decided not to worry about it anymore. I think that's a good strategy.  It's hard to fix something when it's not broken (at least that's what I always say about in...
Greatest Songwriter of all time
@backwash  , unfortunately I am not too familiar with Lyle Lovett's work, but You can't talk about song writes without Steve Earle or Lyle Lovitt I am in total agreement with you as related to Steve Earle's song writing--so much so that I prev...
